Went to sprints last night even though I was feeling a bit crap and had a dodgy stomach and heart palpitations (muscle spasms I think) and pain in my bladder. I was also getting acid reflux.
I did a lateral flow test to make sure and it was negative so I decided to go anyway.
I also had a burrito for a late lunch about 14:30 and it was still sitting heavy at 19:30 when we started sprinting.
There were also only 2 of us so we cranked through them really quickly which I think was the cause of my slower times this week. I was consistently slower this week compared to last week but at least I was able to breath properly and managed to do all 12 sprints so better than last Thursday’s session at least!
Here are my fastest sprints this year compared to my fastest last year:
Date | Fastest 25m | Fastest 50m |
23/11/2021 | 3.950 | 6.591 |
18/1/2022 | 4.087 | 6.793 |
20/01/2022 | 4.064 | 6.775 |
25/01/2022 | 4.141 | 6.863 |
I had swapped out my stem for a front loader stem instead of the top loader stem that was on the bike but I don’t think that this was the cause of the slower times. I think that it was more likely that I was off last night or that I wasn’t leaving enough time between sprints to fully recover!
I should have also pumped up my tyres as I hadn’t done that for about a month and also oil my chain as that hasn’t been done for a while either.
From now on I will pump up my tyres and oil my chan before each sprint session so that I can be as consistent as possible. We also marked the 25m and 50m marks where we sprint so that we can be more consistent with the measurements too.
Yesterday I bought a disk brake adapter and 140mm disk so that I can convert the Meybo to disk brake and use the StayStrong wheel that I bought my Son at Xmas. This means that I will be able to get the Profile elite hubs serviced as the bearings are getting a bit knackered so the wheel sort of binds while spinning. It kind of feels like the brake is rubbing but it definitely is not so I think that a service is in order. Once I get them back I will build up the Speedco with them so that I can test it out with the longer stem to see if it feels any better, if it doesn’t ride better then I will have to sell it on and decide what to do next.
Bike wise I am currently torn between buying a Curtis frame and then ride it for the rest of my time racing or to get a Pure frame and replace it every year or buy a complete bike like a Chase Element Pro cruiser and then ride it for a year and then sell it and get a new one the next year.
