Weigh-in and back on the bike.
This morning I woke up and had a weigh-in and I had dropped a little bit more weight again this week (0.3kgs) so I dropped from 108.6kgs last week to 108.3kgs this week which is good as I didn’t do any exercise apart from walking again this week due to my concussion.
As I was feeling over the concussion today I went to the track at about 12 to feel out the bike and see how I was! My head felt great but my body was holding back on me and wouldn’t let me go 100% down the start hill. This annoyed me a fair bit as. I wasn’t even hurt so not sure why I can’t just get back to how I was before the crash! I have come back way stronger from much worse crashes/ Injuries so I guess it is due to the concussion not being 100% right as the bad crashes I was 3 or more months off the bike so I guess my head had more time to heal!
I will try riding again tomorrow night at gates in Burnham and see if a change of track helps or not!
On a positive note the Speedco felt much better with the longer stem so I am going to stay on it for the season I think. Or at least until I find a new frame to race.
While I have been sat bored for the last week or so I have bought all the bits to get the NS jump bike frame built up and running. Most of the parts should be here by Thursday so I should have the bike built up by the weekend although the weather is looking really bad so I may not get to ride it properly until next week but still. I figure that I will ride the jump bike for a bit to get my confidence up jumping before I start trying to jump on the BMX again. I also figure that it will be a better option for learning to manual on the flat on as it is easier to get the front up as the suspension forces the front wheel in the air when it decompresses so I will just need to work on getting my body in the correct position and holding the manual! I want to use the jump bike on the pump track near us as it has a downhill jump line so it is more suited to the jump bike than the bmx although the idea is to get comfortable on the jump bike the start using the BMX to get comfortable on that too. I also bought a better disk brake for the Meybo as well as the brake on it isn’t great and the lever keeps moving towards the grip as you ride as the adjuster screw keeps moving. I have tried lock-tight on it but it still keeps moving so I gave up as it is really annoying! I will put the brake back on the 4x bike and then the jump bike and the Meybo will both have the same break system so should feel the same.
I am building the Dialled Cruiser back up with the old bits from the Meybo and I will use it to ride to work on as the dent on the headtube will not make too much of a difference for that. Also the bits are all cheaper so it will mean that if it does get stolen, then it’s not the end of the world.
I have also bought cranks and wheels for the Sunday 24″ park bike to get that built up and working as well. I have also bought another bike rack to go in the garage to start getting some of there bikes out of the house, as well as a ground anchor to go in the garage to lock the bikes up properly as well as get them out of the way.
I am just having a shower and then I will go into the garage and it tidied ready to get the bikes sorted before the stands arrive.
Tomorrow I pick up a loan e-bike from the council scheme to test to see if I would be able to get rid of my car and use the hire car scheme that one of the rental companies has. If it works than I will be able to get my car through the MOT and sell it which will save be a bunch of money this year. I have been thinking that other than going to sprints and racing at Bristol or regional or National race I really don’t use my car a lot apart from to drive up to the BMX track to train and do gates so if I have an ebike I can get to the track which is at the top of the hill faster than I would in a car so I would be able to leave the dialled 24″ or the jump bike in the container and then ride the e-bike to the track and train in my lunch hour. With the ebike I would also be warmed up but not hanging out of my arse like I was when I rode up on the road bike so I should be able to do a couple of 3/4 speed laps and then start training properly. I am borrowing the ebike for 2 weeks so it will give me enough time to figure stuff out I guess.
My car costs me at least £1000 a year to keep on the road so that will pay for the ebike. The rental scheme is about £20 a month so that works out at £240 + rentals so it is way less than the car costs.
