Weigh-in
I woke up and did my normal Monday morning weigh in and I was surprised to see that I have dropped 0.3kgs in 3 days with very little exercise!
Date | Weight |
01/01/2022 | 107.9 |
03/01/2022 | 107.6 |
I would say that this weight loss is 100% due to stopping drinking Coca Cola on New Years Day! I guess that will be due to the fact that I was drinking 1 x 1.75 litre bottles a day which equates to roughly 715 calories roughly. That is basically more calories than some diets allow in a day!!!
Although my weight hasn’t dropped significantly at the moment I have noticed that my stomach is flatter and less bloated and my belly and love handles are reducing also. I have also noticed this morning that my jeans that were feeling a little tight on New Years eve have way more room today so I can definitely feel the benefits of stopping!
We will see in the coming weeks how stopping drinking Coca Cola will affect my weight! I am hoping with losing the 714 cals per day and also increasing my exercise levels by adding the gym (and the 40 minutes a day of extra bike riding to and from the gym), manual training and skipping to my weekly exercise load that my weight will start to plummet. As stated before I have set a goal of dropping my weight from 107kgs to around 85kgs by July to help me get faster so that I can at least be competitive when I race the Worlds in France. This weight loss equates to losing around 7kgs a month until the worlds. That being said I am not going to focus on my weight as an official goal as I think that I will naturally drop weight with regular training and transitioning to a plant based diet over time.
I think that dropping weight will be important to improving my performance as BMX racing is a power sport so the power to weight ratio is really important to increasing speed. So losing weight healthily will obviously improve power so will increasing strength through regular weight training. I know that over 30 vet pro Barry Nobles is working on reducing his weight this offseason to improve his power to weight ratio.
I want to stay away from going on a diet to lose the weight as reducing calories also leads to overtraining, reduced performance and injury! I am instead trying to move to a more plant based diet and slowly eliminating meat and dairy from my diet as well as setting the goal of not eating takeout this year.
As I said before, I am struggling this week with Coca Cola withdrawal symptoms of headaches, feeling low on energy and flat as well as craving sugar constantly due to the rapid reduction of my intake of caffeine and sugar that Coca Cola is full of so I do not expect to be training too much for the next week or so but after that the withdrawal symptoms will have stopped so I can get back to training normally again. By the middle of the month. I also have a race on the 12th Jan and 26th Jan at Bristol so I need to get fit or I will suffer doing full laps if Saturday’s racing performance is anything to go by! I am fully expecting this month to be a real struggle due to the Coke withdrawal and the increased training loads but I think that once this month is out of the way I will be feeling fitter and training harder which I need to do as Nationals racing starts again on 12th March so not long to go. My aim is to be able to do full speed laps putting in effort for the full track by then. I am not overly bothered about making finals etc but I want to be at least putting in 100% effort for 3 moto’s to place as well as I can and if I make a final that is a bonus. My main focus this year is to at least make it out of the motos at the Worlds so that I can show that I sort of belong there but mainly to not get shown up like I was racing riders with current world plates at last years Nationals. I am basically going to the worlds for the experience of racing the fastest riders in the world in my age group but I would like to actually feel like I at least at a similar level to them!
