So basically my training is not going very well at all so I am changing it up again to try and get into the habit of exercising every day.
My idea for now is to set a new goal of doing at least 1 hour of exercise a day from now until the end of the year to try and build the habit of moving more to burn off the blubba!
At the end of the day I am using the next year as a rebuilding year as I don’t see my shoulder being race ready in the next year so I may as well get a good base level of fitness going and try and get as lean as possible ready to train hard for the 2024 season!
I have learnt that walking every morning is boring and that I will not keep to it for any length of time as with the 10000 Steps challenge as I am not that motivated to make the goal every day! So I have decided to make my goal even simpler to achieve by making sure that I do an hour of exercise a day instead. To make the challenge easier I will set a reoccurring task on my phone so that I can get the satisfaction of ticking off a task every day which improves my mood and motivates me more than just doing the task.
I am also going to add more variety to my exercise life by not just picking one type of exercise and doing that every day, I think that doing something different every day will make it way easier to keep motivated. I have decided that I will only commit to work out Mon-Friday at the moment and leave the weekend free to do whatever I want and also to recover. Once I can ride a bike again that will change as I will ride t the weekend again.
To start with I plan to do the following:
Monday – Walking to and from the office + Enough steps to make 10000 steps as active rest.
Tuesday – Gym (legs)
Wednesday – Road Bike
Thursday – Gym (legs)
Friday – Road Bike
Saturday – Off
Sunday – Off
Once my shoulder and wrist are better I can add upper body weights to the schedule too but for the moment I will stick top legs and Road bike to get into the habit of working out every day after 3-4 month of inactivity. For the moment the road bike session will most likely be in the gym too on the incumbent bike as it doesn’t put any stress on the shoulder and wrist so is more comfortable.
I am currently re-arranging my flat so that I can set the smart trainer up in front of the TV so that I can do light Zwift sessions until my shoulder allows for more weight bearing and then I can try and go for it more and maybe do some Zwift races to keep me entertained. This will be especially good as the weather is turning way more wintery now so its not nice riding outdoors at the moment. With the bike in front of the TV I am also more likely to get on it and ride while I am watching TV so I could maybe get an hour in on the bike at lunch time instead of going to bed for an hour like I do now 🙂
I will also try to do some type of active rest at weekends too just to keep moving like today for instance my son and myself walked into town and back for lunch so I have done 10330 steps today already so a good bit of active rest.
