StayStrong Speed and Style 24″ done

Woke up at 5:00 with my alarm, got up and did my weigh-in and I’m up to 106.4 kgs so this weekend I am going cold turkey with the fizzy drinks and going full carnivore again to get the weight going down instead of up! I then got ready and rode into the office on the StayStrong Speed and Style 24″ and the changes to the front end have helped a lot! The bike just feels right now 🙂

I am on a half day today so I will go to the track at lunch time then head over to my parents. I plan to test out the timing system then do some gates to test the timing system is working or not. I still have to tighten up the chain ring bolts as I took a chance this morning as I really couldn’t be bothered to tighten them fully before I rode to the office! I have ordered a decent chain ring bolt tool which has a decent T handle on it as I really don’t like the normal tools. I am hoping that this tool will make it easier to tighten the chain ring bolts without the skin on a couple of knuckles every time like I do with the normal tools!

So this morning I bit the bullet and bought a new set of sprag and pawls for the black Profile Mini rear wheel so I can get that on the StayStrong and then put the Chrome Profile Mini wheel on the Standard 24″ so it has both the same wheels and I can add a 16t chainring so that I can run a 37 x 16 on it so I have gearing options for sprints!

So the chain ring bolt tool arrived just now and it is much better than the normal ones so the chain ring bolts are now nice and tight and should be good for today for sure 🙂

This afternoon I have been trying to dial in the Curtis brake and I followed all of the instructions and couldn’t figure out why there was a rubbing noise when I turned the pedals then I was taking the cranks off to put on the StayStrong and I was turning the pedals with the bike the other way around in the bike stand and I suddenly noticed that the noise was the chain rubbing on the inside of the frame so the largest gearing i can use on the Curtis is a 36 x 16 so I am going to use the Staystrong with the 41 x 18 and the Curtis with a 36 x 16 as before from now on!

This means when the Curtis is set up with its new back wheel I will be using my race gearing and when I ride the StayStong I will be running a higher gearing at 41 x 18 and also have a 24 x 1.75 tyre instead of the 24 x 1.60 on the Curtis.

Am am liking the StayStong but it is not as good as the Curtis to ride so I want to get a new back wheel built up as soon as possible to be able to ride the Curtis all the time! There is really nothing that I have found quite as good as the Curtis to be honest! So I may as well enjoy riding mine so I want to swap out the Onyx and just ride it with the Profile Elite wheel when I get it built up.

So i have just built up the StayStrong with the 41 x 18 gearing and the rear wheel is even further back now so when the half link chain arrives I should be able to slam the wheel a bit more at least! I have left the clipless pedals and I will head to Bristol first thing and then test out the 41 x 18 gearing and the clipless shoes as I have not used them yet!
