May 30 day bike challenge – day 1

Last night I got my road bike out of the garage and pumped its tyres up ready to go for a ride at lunch time today. This morning I also swapped the pedals from clipless to flat pedals to make it less hassle to go for a ride and also make it easier to ride the bike to work on Mondays when I am in the office.

As soon as I woke up this morning I had my beetroot shot as apparently the best time to take the shot is first thing in the morning and then don’t eat for at least 1 hour afterwards so all the nutrients are absorbed. I took my shot at 7am so I can eat anytime after 8am.

Just to be clear to myself this 30 hour bike challenge is on top of my BMX riding just so that I can’t count BMX training as part of my hours riding a day. I am going to try and dial back the intensity a bit as well as I usually ride flat out everywhere which isn’t ideal for weight loss but is way more enjoyable 🙂 I will however count riding to the office as part of this challenge. I also want to start doing a longer recovery ride on Monday afternoons as I am usually too sore to train on the BMX after a heavy weekend of training so the recovery ride will act as active recovery and also burn some more calories. I have decided that on most rides I will try and ride to the BMX track so that I get used to climbing the massive hill to the track then after this challenge I may be able to leave the car at home and ride the road bike to the track to train instead which will be a really good warmup as well as burning way more energy 🙂

I will record my rides with Strava so I will be able to see how much better or worse I am getting during my 30 days.
