Some of the parts arrived today for the Octane One Zircus
Today was a bit of a hectic day! I woke up at 6am and got ready and rode the jump bike into work, did some work for about an hour and rode home again and started work. I then worked all morning and went back to work for 12pm and did another 30 minutes or so in the office and then rode home again!
This morning the new seat post and the seat clamp, seat post shim and the other bits that I ordered yesterday arrived so I started building the new bike up:
Unfortunately DPD let Crucial down again and didn’t deliver the sprocket that I ordered yesterday and paid next working day delivery on 🙁
It is looking like I may have to cut off a bit of the seat post as it is fully slammed in the second photo and is too high for me to ride the bike properly on the track! As you can see from the first photo the seat tube on the Octane One Zircus is curved so the seat post will not go all the way into the seat tube. This may cause issues when I want to ride the bike to work as if I cut the seat post down, it may not be long enough to sit down and ride on. The S&M Long Johnson on the NS is the same length as the new Gusset post and is only just long enough to ride on when it is up. I may have to compromise and have a seat and post to ride to work on and one to ride on the track with I will have to see once the bike is built up.
As I now have a seat post and clamp on the Octane One Zircus I can now clamp the seat post into the clamp so that I do not have to clamp the seat tube any more 🙂
As the sprocket didn’t arrive I couldn’t build the new bike up so I have left it as it is at the moment. It is a bit annoying as I wanted to ride the new bike this weekend but I will rider the NS instead until the new sprocket arrives and then I will build up the Octane One Zircus and ride that instead. I am hoping that the sprocket will arrive tomorrow or Saturday at the latest but we will see.
Tomorrow we have a works party at Bath track late morning then afterwards we plan to ride the track a bit so I will take the NS with me and ride it.
Saturday is Gates practice at Bath and I will ride the S&M then Sunday is Round 3 of the South Regionals in Merton where I will race, then Monday I will most likely ride somewhere again. I am not sure yet where I will ride on Monday or on which bike but I am hoping that it will be the Zircus to give it a good test ride!
I did a quick side by side comparison of the NS and the Octane One Zircus and they seem to be pretty much identical so I am hopeful that they will ride the same as I really like the way the NS rides but it was really limited in terms of gearing choices which is why I changed it out! One thing is for sure the Octane One Zircus frame is way lighter than the NS so it should ride better 🙂
I will also give my profile elite wheels and the new bearings to my friend so that he can give them a service and change the bearings over so the wheels will then be ready to build up the Speedco and get that sold to pay off some of my credit card bills and free up some more space in the flat. I wasn’t able to get to Bristol last night to do gates so I wasn’t able to get rid of the Chase so that is currently hanging about in my lounge with the jump bike and the race cruiser so the flat is a tad claustrophobic at the moment!
On my todo list for this weekend is to sort out the garage and the flat so that I can organise all of my bikes as well as build up the 24″ Sunday Model C and get that on the internet to sell as I don’t use that either so it is just taking up space 🙁 I have also decided to sell the Dialled 4x Frame AND the the NS Jump Frame once I have built up the Octane One Zircus then I will clear a lot of space. I also need to get one of the shelving units from the Garage into my coat cupboard so that I can get all of the bike parts bins out of the lounge and organised on the shelving unit out of the way! I have also bought a bunch of draw support brackets so that I can fix all of the draws in my chest of draws that currently have the bottom’s falling out of them and start using my tool draw which is currently stuck closed which is not helping the state of my flat as I had to talk all of the tools out and they are spread all over the lounge and some are in a box in my bedroom! The brackets arrive Saturday so I am hopeful that I can get the draws fixed Saturday evening so I can clean the flat Sunday evening/ Monday and start work again Tuesday with a tidy flat.
I got some bite cream from Amazon this afternoon and after using it for a couple of hours I am pretty sure that the bite on my thumb is a spider bite of some sort 🙁
The thumb is way less swollen now and is not itching as much either so the creme is doing something but the actual site of the bite is getting darker which is not a great sign and I will have to keep an eye on it over the next few days!
