Shorter ride this morning

I woke up early again this morning after being on call last night and went on a shorter ride along the 2 tunnels again. This morning was a struggle as I was really tired and I was feeling really sore so this mornings ride was the complete opposite of yesterday mornings ride! I noticed that when you are hurting and not enjoying the ride you notice every little ache and pain and I really couldn’t get my left foot comfortable on the whole ride! I’m not sure how much of that is me being ultra sensitive due to not really enjoying the ride or how much was added pain! But I soldiered on through it and got the ride done!

IMG 36D8A8E23B7C 1Interestingly my average and maximum speeds were way faster this morning than Yesterday! Today My average speed was 16.7mph and my top speed was 25.6mph compared to 13.7mph and 22.7mph yesterday! Go figure!

I decided on my ride that I will swap back to flat pedals and shoes for now to try and cut out the foot pain from the clipless shoes/ pedal combo. Also having flat shoes on means that if I get a puncture on the ride I can walk home easily where as if I get a puncture with clipless shoes it will be a real pain literally and figuratively to walk back!

Other than the pedal issue I am really happy with the way the Vitus rides so will keep on using it even when my shoulder if good enough to ride a road bike again!

Honestly for what I want to get out of my morning rides the MTB is better asd it is heavier and doesn’t roll as well as the road bike so riding it will burn more calories anyway so I may as well carry on using it!

When I got home I immediately started work until midday when I had the afternoon off.

Typically I had deliveries from Crucial and Source BMX and both were arriving right when I was wanting to be at the track 🙁 I have changed my plans and I will go to the tack for about 5pm, ride for a bit then set the gate up for Matt’s training then go home shower and then drive to Trowbridge to pick up an A3 Scanner that I bought to scan bike frame stickers to try and make custom stickers.

I also decided to sell my Dialled Cruiser as I now have the Chase to keep in the Container once its fully built up so I don’t need the dialled any more so I may as well sell it to recoup some of the money that I have spent on it. I am also getting the Airdrop Fade, Sunday Wave C and my road bike ready to sell as well as a bunch of my frames that U have hung on the walls doing nothing!

I have also signed up to race Tiverton this Sunday so there is no turning back now!

I opened the Vee OS20 x 1.60 tyres that I bought last week from UrbanAir and they are super skinny so I had to find some Tioga OS20x1.85 tyres but unfortunately there are no OS20 tyres available in the UK other than the Vee 1.60’s but luckily I had read an article on the 15.ie website about their OS20 build and they linked to Les Troix Rous in France where they bought their 1.85 tyres so I went on that site and bought one Normal Tioga Powerblock OS20 x 1.85 Tyre, one Tioga Power Block S-Spec OS20 x 1.85 tyre and 2 x tioga OS20 inner tubes. I bought one of each as there was only one normal power block left and also because I have the same setup on my Cruiser with the S spec on the front and the normal power block on the back so I figured I may as well do the same.

The tyres have already been posted so they should be here in plenty of time for the wheels to be ready.

While I was stuck at home I decided to look at the gearing again with the OS20 x 1.85 power blocks and it turns out that with the OS20 x 1.85 power block a gearing of 43 x 17 has basically the exact same roll out as 37 x 16 with a 24×1.60 tyre on the Cruiser. I had a 17t Profile Cog arrive today from Source BMX but typically I bought the wrong Chain ring 🙁 (42 not a 43) so I will call Crucial and see if I can swap the 42 for a 43.

Looking at the charts there is nothing really close on to the 36×16 on a cruiser that I could see so I will most likely stay on a 37 x 16 and 43 x 17 on the OS20 then the gearing is the same.

The new chain for the Chase also arrived today from Amazon so once the Rims arrive and the wheels are built up the Chase will be ready to build up 🙂

I am just getting ready now to go to the track for a bit then setup the gate so I will leave the blog here for now.

Once the track has the timing system I can play around with gearing a bit more but for now I will stick with 37 x 16 and 43 x 17 on the cruiser and OS20!
