Seat clamp arrived

So my new hope 30mm seat post clamp arrived today for the Standard without any sweets 🙁 Poor show Wiggle 🙂

The clamp looks really good on the bike and I can’t wait to ride the bike when I get a back wheel on it! I am really low on funds so the Standard is going to have to stay on the wall for now until I get some frames and bikes sold so that I can afford a new wheel set being built up. The Other option is to get a new driver, sprags and paws and a driver for my profile mini hub that I have in the draw and get my friend to build it up on a new rim with halo hubs. To be honest getting the rim sorted will pretty much cost the same as buying a new one and its red so I may as well wait and get a new wheel.

I am really loving the Halo clickster freewheel as it is noice and loud but has good engagement and is super smooth so its the perfect freewheel for the GT. I am debating getting a complete halo 24″ freewheel wheel and getting a halo clickster freewheel as my winter wheel then I can get the Standard built up and bullet proof as my winter bike but I will see.

Having a less posh training bike is also really good when you get on your race bike with brand new Onyx hubs and tubolitos as the race bike feels super fast in comparison to training bike 🙂 I found this when going from the OS20 with Profile mini hubs so imagine going from a freewheel to Onyx hubs! Also having a harder bike to train on will act as weight training in the long run too especially when combined with the 1 tooth higher gearing  I will be using over the winter!

I had my first ride on the GT Pro Series into work and apart from the brake not working down hills due to the knackered cable and the fact that I forgot to tighten up the front wheel so it kept clunking every time I did a manual or jump the bike did really well! I have bought 3m of outer cable from Amazon that will be here tomorrow and have 20 inner brake cables in the parts bin so I can get the brake working properly tomorrow night then I am all set for riding to the office on Monday.

I really like the 42×18 gearing on there for riding around on its a bit less spinny than the 36×16 on my race bike but is still light enough to ride up the hill to my house without having to get out of the seat so its just about perfect! I wouldn’t want to ride it to the track as I would end up pushing up the hills but for around town its perfect and I get a bit more exercise than on the ebike!

I am going to take the bars and stem off of the bike at the weekend and put the top loader stem and the bars off of my Inspyre cruiser onto the GT as I want to use the stem and bars on the Standard as they are too good to use to ride about town and are more expensive than the rest of the bike put together! Also the bars are a little low for riding to work on at my warmup seat and post is slightly too high for me to reach the bars comfortably with the front loader stem so the top loader stem and bars with more back sweep should make it slightly better!
