So we had the last round of the South West Series today and after a rainy start the weather cleared up and we had some really fun racing. My full laps were terrible but my starts and first straights were pretty consistent so I can be happy with that! I managed to scrape a semi and finished last in the B final but that was to be expected as I am really rusty race wise and didn’t really practice any of the straights apart from the 1st straight in the 3 practice laps I managed before racing started 🙁
My Gate times were as follows:
Moto 1 = 2.343
Moto 2 = 2323
Moto 3 = 2.367
Semi = 2.348
B Final = 2.327
All by times were 2.3 something and I was in second place into the 1st corner which is pretty good! I was only 0.131 seconds off of the fastest Cruiser gate of the day so not bad for a fat out of shape old man 🙂 My final gate time would have been good enough for the 4th fastest time in the A final too so I think we can safely say that my gates are OK! My full lap times on the other hand were shocking 🙁 My fastest lap time was 8.174 seconds slower than the fastest Cruiser lap and 3.232 seconds slower than the winning time for the B final! I was also 3.663 from one of the guys that I would usually finish in front of so quite a way to go to be back where I should be.
I think that when I change my gearing I will be faster as I will not run out of legs like I did today!
From now on I am going to work on my full laps to get my body back in to some kind of BMX racing shape by the time I start racing again next year!
I have to say the Curtis Racelite is amazing and I am really loving riding it more and more each day so I have definitely made the right choice buying another Curtis.
My friend who builds my wheels made a surprise appearance at racing today so I have given him my OS20 rims and the Profile Mini hubs to get them built up for me 🙂 He is also going to take the Curtis off of me on Thursday night and get the brake dialled in for me as it keeps randomly rubbing which is really not fun and makes me even slower than I already am!
So when I get back from holiday in Brazil on the 11th of next month I will have a fully working Curtis and I should hopefully have some OS20 wheels to build up the Chase to play on 🙂
This coming week I will focus on my 10000 Steps and doing full pump laps of the track to build up stamina then when I get back from Brazil I will start to work in full lap burners to try and build up my fitness as well as working on riding at full race speed as well!
