Racing at Bristol

Got the first race of the season out of the way tonight at Bristol winter series. It was super hard going but I made the A final but had nothing left in my legs and finished 7th in the end 🙁

I basically ran out of legs in all but the first race but my breathing got better every race which is promising. I need to get to the gym ASAP to start working on my leg strength and start doing full laps a couple of times a week as well to get into shape before the start of the season. All race dates are now out and the first race will be at Andover on the 6th of March which is only 53 days from now so I have to knuckle down and start training!!!

On a positive note after sorting out my creaky Renthal bars the bike rode really well and it was much easier to get around the track than the Speedco which is definitely too small. I think that I will stick with the Meybo at least until the Worlds when I may buy a new frame but I may stick with the Meybo depending on how I feel about it after 5-6 month of racing it. I noticed that along with pumping better the Meybo, it felt much better on the track and manuals were way easier than the Speedco too. The Speedco felt a bit stiffer out of the gate and was definitely faster but I am not sure how much of that was the frame and how much of it was the Onyx hub. The Profile elites are really good but they do not feel quite as engaged on the gate and my first and second pedal felt a bit slower too.

At the weekend I am going to take the rim and the spokes off of the Onyx hub and take it to CrucialBMX to get a new rim and spokes on it then stick it on the Meybo to test it with the Onyx. I also want to do some testing with my timing system and try out both wheels to see if there is actually a difference or if it is just in my mind 🙂

My idea for the bike for the season is definitely to get the disk brake adapter and put a disk brake on it and then get a new set of onyx wheels built up to race on and use the Staystrong wheels that I bought my Son at Christmas for training on and keep the Onyx Wheels just for racing on. I will then give my Son my old Onyx back wheel and then his bike will be as good as it is going to be and as I said before I can build up my Profile Elite hubs onto 20″ rims
