Parts Arrived already

gt

So the Chain rings just arrived and the bars arrived before Lunch so I fitted the bars to the bike already and I am just about to fit the 36×16 on the bike now and I have just ordered a Halo Clickster 18T Freewheel from Alan’s BMX which will be here next week sometime.

The 36 x 16 gearing will be fine for now and I will get my Son to rest the bike out at the pump track on Sunday.

The bars look and feel much better than the S&M bars which were only 5″ rise so looked and felt small!

I have just tried to fit the new sprocket and the spindle for the cranks is too wide and the screw for the sprocket is also too wide so I will get a cheap bottom bracket and then use the cranks off of my Sunday Freestyle bike for now!

I have also put in an offer on a set of Shimano Zee cranks which will be a better option than freestyle cranks but we will see if I get the cranks or not! If not I will use the freestyle cranks and the sprockets until I get some of lent out cranks back! I’m kind of hoping that I don’t win the Zee cranks now 🙂

I have bought a new Gusset External 19mm Euro Bottom Bracket as it was the cheapest one that I could find at 29.99 with free postage and Gusset stuff is usually good stuff and lasts a long time so I am hoping that it will last for a few years 🙂 They should arrive sometime next week so I will go to the container with my Son on Sunday and get my Sunday 24″ back and then take the cranks off of it and get the Redline cranks back on it, clean it and get it on the internet to sell! And then get the Sunday Cranks that are basically brand new off of it and ready to fit once the new bottom bracket arrives. I expect that the Halo Clickster will arrive about the same time as the bottom bracket so I will fit both at the same time and use the 42t Sprocket as the Halo Clickster is 18T so that will work the best!

I have removed the old cranks and I will clean the GT properly and coat it in protection spray then it should stay cleaner longer then I will stick it in the garage until the new parts arrive then it will be built up ready to ride to work and around town over the winter! Essentially apart from the wheel bearings (other than the freewheel) and the headset all of the parts of the bike that may need replacing due to wear and water damage will have been replaced with good quality sealed components so hopefully the bike will not need any repair until the brakepads or tyres wear so that should be way after the winter is over again!

Open photoI am super happy with how the GT is turning out and I can’t wait to ride it next week when I have all the parts to build it up.

When I fit the bottom bracket, new freewheel and cranks I will also replace the chain with a brand new one so that the whole drivetrain is new so I shouldn’t have to worry about it for a while at least.

While pushing the bike I tested the headset and that seems good and smooth still so I don’t think I have to worry about that either so we should be fine for a while.

Then the brake blocks wear out I will replace the brake and lever with a DXR brake and lever as I really like the DXR brakes but to be honest the Tektro Brakes on there are pretty decent anyway. At some point I will have to replace the wheels as well as they are not the best wheels but as I have a really decent freewheel I can just get a cheaper set of hubs and halo rims and spokes and the new wheels will be bomb proof and cost about £200 but if I can I want to wait until after I get my Standard OS20 built up as I will have to spend out getting decent disk hubs to build up the AlienNation OS20 rims that I already have waiting for the new frame. Other than the hubs and spokes I think most of the parts on the Chase will be able to go onto the Standard so I my be able to get the GT some new wheels for Xmas! Lets see.
