As I mentioned on my post on Thursday my son’s new Octane One Zircus 2022 frame arrived from Wiggle and looked great until I tried to build it up. When I tried to fit the headset the top bearing was too big to fit in the bearing race as you can see from the 3rd picture above. This was very weird as I have the same frame (different Colour) and same headset on my Octane One Zircus 2022 frame and as you can see from the photo the headset fits correctly!
As I thought that this was odd I decided to buy the correct size for the bike as per their website (IS42/52) which arrived yesterday (Friday) and had exactly the same issue as the other headset that I have:
I have sent the new photo to wiggle support but I have yet to hear back from them.
While I was looking at the headsets that come with the Airdrop Fade that I bought (Cane Creek 40) I noticed that they did an option of a IS41/52 headset which means that the top bearing is 41mm not the usual 42mm so it may fit this frame! So I bought one as a last resort while I wait for a response from Wiggle.
The Crane Creak headset will arrive today so I will be able to fit it and see if it works or not. If it doesn’t I will send the frame and the Crane Creak headset back and get a refund!
It’s not a big deal as the Frame is surplus to requirements now as I have just bought the Airdrop Fade so my son can now have my Octane One Zircus as a complete bike as I bought a complete new bike.
Once the Crane Creak headset arrives I will test it and update this post.
So the new headset arrived this afternoon and it fits better that the correct size headset does but it is still not going all the way into the race so it does not fit flush so I have reached out to Wiggle support to see what can be done. They were talking about bearing presses which I pointed out should not be needed for an integrated headset so I will wait and see what they say! I have asked about returning the frame as I am not happy about the quality of it so lets see what they say.
As planned I will now setup my Octane One Zircus for my son and send the new frame back and wait for my Airdrop to arrive next month. I’m happy to wait and use my old bike when my Son is not about so its all good.
I have been exchanging emails with Wiggle about the frame issue and they are arranging for the defective frame to be picked up and a replacement being sent out so the issues should be resolved soon 🙂 Unfortunately there is a courier strike next week so the frame is being picked up after 31/10/2022 which is not a problem as I have made alternative plans regarding the frame so it is not needed at the moment.
