Octane One Zero getting new cranks, bars and stem

As my Octane One Zircus is going to be setup for my Son I am changing out the cranks, bars and stem for different ones:

I bought some 175mm Truvativ Descendant 6K Eagle DUB cranks with a 32t chain ring to go on the Octane for now and then swap them onto the Airdrop when it arrives, which arrived this afternoon so my job for this afternoon is to so along with the Nukeproof bars and stem off of my 4x bike which my son prefers to the Gussett open Prison bars and stem that are on the bike at the moment:

I also need to swap the cranks off of the Octane onto my Inspyre 20″ as they need to be on there so that I can sell the bike as I don’t need it at all this year as it hurts my shoulder to ride it!

The new cranks went on surprisingly well and look really good too. Much better than the old ones do that’s for sure 🙂

The new gearing means that the rear wheel has had to go from slammed to fully back in the dropouts but that should be OK. This bike is going to go to a 28 x 14 anyway when I swap the cranks over so hopefully the wheel can get more slammed then 🙂

I decided to leave the bars and stem alone as the bars are brand new so should be good and the nukeproof bars were second hand when I bought them so not 100% reliable.

I decided to treat my son to the same bars that will be on the airdrop so Josh Bryceland Ride High 50mm bars from leisurelakesbikes as they were the cheapest around at £67.47 with free delivery. I am going to save them until his birthday on the 22nd November as a surprise as he has already had a new PC case early for his birthday so he will at least have something to open on the day 🙂 The bars will work with the Nukeproof Stem as they are 35mm bars and the stem is 35mm too. Doing this means that both bikes will have a similar feels cockpit wise so that it will make it easier to swap between the bikes when needed. I can also use my Son’s bars as practice for cutting them down too to make sure that the bars feel food at 29″ as I want to have the bars the same width as my cruiser bars to make switching bikes easier too.

I’ve just measure the Nukeproof bars that I have and they are also cut to 29″ so I may put them on the bike after all 🙂 Then I can get a feel for the bike with 29″ Bars.

As I may race the Airdrop Fade next year I will have to cut the bars down anyway as the maximum width in the BMX rules is 29″ I think anyway so it makes sense to do that anyway.

The Inspyre is now built up with the Forward cranks so its just waiting for the new front wheel and then it is all built up. I and still deciding if I will sell it now or keep it in the garage and decide once I know how good my shoulder is going to be going forwards.

I am also thinking that I will keep the Dialled 20″ as I really like it and the money that I will get back for it is not worth selling it. Tomorrow I need to strip down the Meybo and build up the Yess Type X with the parts so that my friend can pick up the Meybo as he wants to buy it back off of me. I think that I have sold the Dialled Pro and also maybe the 24″ dialled so they will clear some space. I am off next Wednesday so I will need to organise the Garage so that some of the bikes can be left in there to clear space for the Airdrop in the house. Also at the moment the Octane One Zircus is in the coat cupboard so is in the Way. I have a bike rack in my room where the Airdrop and the Octane One can live and the Yess can go on the lounge wall then all my expensive bikes are all in the house.
