Yesterday I went to the Brits in Bournemouth and watched the days racing and chilled with all of my friends until the end of the day when my new to me 2019 Yess Type X Pro XL Cruiser Frame was ready to be picked up as the lad selling the frame had to finish his final before I could pick up the frame:
I also picked up some bits to put on the Pure (Forward Joyride Cranks, 36t Forward Chain Ring, Chin-ring bolts and a pure seat) ready to sell the bike next week. I also treated myself to the last pair of Yess Reach Forks that Crucial are going to have which happen to be perfect for the Yess Cruiser Frame and my new wheel set once it is built up (1 1/8 steerer and 20mm axle). The new parts mean that I can keep my current DXR Cranks, Rennan Chain ring and my BOX one Seat that has been on all of my bikes for the past 6 years so has sentimental value.
Once I had picked up the frame I put it in the car and then went and chilled at the campsite a bit before picking up my Cruiser that I had lent top a friend from the club to race on and then headed home.
When I got home and checked the frame over properly this morning I noticed that it was missing one of the chain tensioners, the 10mm axle washers and also the seat clamp so I ordered a new seat clamp and axle washers from Crucial but they didn’t have any chain tensioners in stock so I searched online and found that Yess Europe had some in stock so I bought 2 sets to make sure that I have spares in case I need them in the future. No ETA of when the Chain Tensioners will arrive but I would hope that they will arrive Before the Frame needs to be built up in a few months! The Frame also came with a Tangent Bottom Bracket that I am not going to use but will be good for the parts bin as it still rolls nicely. I am not using it as I have my Chris King Ceramic Bottom bracket to run.
The frame is in rough shape and will need a respray before I can ride it so I will strip it down and take to to be powder coated on Tuesday afternoon as I also have to take my Dialled MX20 frame in to get it sand blasted and powder coated too.
I also tried to remove the chain tensioner that was in the frame but it is pretty much stuck so I am not sure what I will be able to do to get it out so that the frame can be stripped and powder coated.
I am not sure which colours I will get either frame powder coated at the moment but I was going to strip and polish the Yess but I have decided against this now as it looks like a real pain in the arse!
At the moment I going between the current Matt Black, Luminous Yellow, Blue/ Purple like the Pure, Grey like my Dialled 4X Frame and a type of metallic titanium that I got my old frame painted in. I will mull over the colours tomorrow and Tuesday morning before going to the Powder coaters on Tuesday after Lunch. I think that the frame would look amazing in Luminous Yellow with custom black stickers so it would look something like the 2018 GT Speed Series frame which was my favorite GT Color way so far:
I think that the Yess would look amazing like this built up as I have all black parts anyway and I love the contrast of blacked out parts on a really light frame colour looks amazing. My Dialled MX24″ is already in this colour and looks good so I think I may do this colour for a change from my dark frames that I usually have. The only disadvantage of this colour is that it shows the dirt so needs more cleaning than a black frame.
I am thinking that I could get custom luminous Yellow Reach stickers from Crucial as well to make the forks the inverse color-way to the frame to look even tricker 🙂 And I can stick them over the original stickers to protect the original stickers and make them easy to revert back when I change frame colour or put the forks on another bike. I am going to have to get some custom stickers for the frame so I may as well go custom on the fork stickers too.
My Son really likes the Blue/ Purple Pure colorway so there is an argument for getting the frame that colour but I found it a bit blingy for my taste although not quite as bright as the Luminous Yellow! I have already had a titanium and a matt black Yess Type X so don’t really want this one to look the same as the old one so they are out I think.
The last colour that I am thinking of is a light Grey like my Dialled Hot Rod 4x frame which is another color that I love and that goes really well with the black components that I have and it is also a bit less bling but also shows the dirt a lot!
The more that I think about it the more I really want the Yess Luminous Yellow and the Dialled MX20 in the light Grey. Decision made!
I found the last time that my bike was really bright that I put more effort in as I knew that people would be looking at the bike so hopefully it will be the same this time. A really bright bike also makes it easier to find myself in photos and on videos 🙂
