I have bought 2 new chains from Wiggle which will be here today sometime (got to love wiggle plus :-)!)
After snapping my KMC K1SL 3/32 chain on Monday I have decided to replace them on both of my race bikes to make sure the other one does not snap on me in the future! It isn’t very likely but they do have hollow pins and i am really heavy at the moment so not the best idea!
I went with the KMC k1 Single speed chain instead.
As an added bonus the K1 chains are about half the price of the K1SL chains so I can replace the chains on Both bikes for the same price as the snapped chain. The K1 is basically the heavier, more robust version of the K1SL and I have used them before and they are bullet proof so I should be OK from now on. I have already fitted a new K1 chain on my Speedco that I bought in the week to try it out and it just about fits with the wheel fully slammed so I am going to try and ride the bike like that tomorrow and see how it goes. It is a bit tight for my liking but hopefully it will stretch out a bit and I will be able to use the bike without the need for chain tensioners which would be good. I will take a new chain and the chain tensions and chain cutter with me tomorrow in case I need to swap the chain out during training as at the moment the pedals have a lot of resistance on them which is not great.
