New Bike – Vitus Nucleus 29 VR Mountain Bike

I am super spoilt this week as I have bought another bike this morning this time it is a mountain bike to use on the rollers as it was actually cheaper to buy a new bike than to get the GT Chucker working enough to use on the smart trainer. The bike was supposed to be here by the beginning of next week but it turns out that it is on back order and is supposed to arrive on the 14/02/2023 which is a week today so I guess I will get it the week of 20-25/02/2023 so an extra week or so so no biggie!

Vitus Nucleus 29 VR Mountain Bike Midnight Blue 01

I have to say that i am really liking blue bikes at the moment so this was ideal. Its not the highest spec bike in the world but it gets 4.5 stars or above everywhere online and the only downside is that they are always sold out 🙂 I bought it as well because it was down from £649.99 to a reasonable £399.99 so it came to £442.21 with a pair of 29 x 2.1″ WTB Thickslick Comp Tyres to make it better on the road when I ride it outside later in the year!  For the time being I intend to use the bike as an exercise bike on the smart trainer to do Zwift rides as get fit as my shoulder will not let me ride the road bike for too long.

I also bought a Sunrace 11-40T 8 speed cassette to go on the smart trainer so that I can swap the bike between the smart trainer and road riding without having to mess around removing cassettes all the time. The cassette is the same make as the one that comes on the bike, the only difference is that the largest cog is 40T not 42T on the bike. This should work fine as I don’t expect to need to use the lowest gearing at all on Zwift so it will not matter.

The Vitus will be used to replace my Specialized Allez road bike so I am selling the road bike to get some of the money back that I spent on the Vitus and to free up space in the garage. I am also going to give up on the GT Chucker and give it to my friend who wants to build a 4x bike to race some 4x on so that will get rid of another bike from the garage.

This week I am also going to get all the other bikes that I don’t use cleaned and photographed and put online to sell to clear space and get some money back too. I also bought a new power washer that is an all in one unit and can be left in the car to clear some much needed space in the flat! I am going to give my Worx power washer to my Dad as he has wanted one for ages and keeps borrowing mine all the time anyway 🙂 By having the Karcher power washer in the boot of the car I can clean the bikes before I bring them home so it will stop all the mess in the garden from washing bikes too.

Organising and thinning down bike collection

I have been decluttering my flat again since the start of the year and the main clutter I have at the moment is bikes and bike bits so I am going to get rid of most of my bikes and stay with the following bikes:

Pure Flux One – Riding around ebike to go to work and go to the track.

Airdrop Fade – Left in the container to train at the track.

Octane One Zircus – Build up for my Son to ride.

Vitus Nucleus 29 VR – Smart trainer and road riding.

Speciallized Allez Elite – Need fixing so storing until later in the year and if not fixed going to sell.

Dialled 20″ – Build up and store as not riding this year but don’t want to sell it.

Curtis Racelite 24″ – Build up and hang on the wall until my shoulder can take riding it.

The following bikes/ frames are going:

Specialized Allez road bike – Sell

Sunday Wave C 24″ Freestyle Bike – Sell

Airdrop Fade Frame Jump bike frame – Sell

NS Metropolis jump bike frame – Sell

Supercross 24″ Cruiser Frame – Sell

Yess Type X 24″ Cruiser – Build up and sell (have a buyer already)

Inspyre 20″ Frame and forks – Sell

GT Chucker – Give away frame and wheels and sell the other parts.

Off the top of my head that is all of my bikes so once they are all sold I will have loads more space in my house and in the garage!

This year I will most likely not be racing too often so I will race on my Airdrop fade Jump bike as the suspension helps with my shoulder so it makes sense. Towards the end of the year/ begging of next year,  I will try and ride the Curtis to start getting used to riding it before next season starts.

Pure Flux One Electric hybrid bike

Over the past couple of days I have ridden the Pure a fair bit and I have to say that I am really liking it. It makes riding to work super quick and easy although I may be faster on a road bike as the Pure can’t go over 15mph as the gearing is too low! I haven’t really tested the Pure on any massive climbs yet but I plan to test it out riding from home to the BMX track which is pretty hilly and is the reason that I bought the Pure in the first place. If going up the hill to my house is anything to go by the Pure should fly up the hills to the track and be the perfect bike for me to use to ride to the track every day to train. Tomorrow after work I need t0 take the Airdrop Fade up to the container so that I can start training on Thursday and Friday lunch times to start getting in the habit of riding the track at lunch time.

At the moment I am only able to do pump laps as my shoulder is still pretty sore at the moment but I think in a month or so I should be good to start manuals and trying to jump which will be good training and also great for my fitness/weight loss too.

By May I hope to be fit enough to start doing full speed laps 2-3 times a week as well as improving my track skills and adding in sprints too. The brakes on the Pure are still shocking so as soon as the Zoom Cable actuated Hydraulic brakes arrive I will be fitting them and binning the brakes that came with the Pure as they are terrible! I am also going to take the bars and stem off of the GT and put them on the Pure as I think that the stem on the Pure is too long and the bars a too narrow for my liking. Once these changes have been made I will leave the bike as is and just ride it!
