Need to refocus

I have just been looking at my step count for the month so far and it is really low at 7244.5 steps a day so I need to refocus a bit on my getting in steps as I am slacking really badly at the moment and my walking WAS really consistent at the beginning of the year when I couldn’t ride the bike much! But since I have been riding the BMX more it has got steadily worse again 🙁 Some of that is due to illness and injuries but its mostly due to not being focused on the walking or seeing it as less important now that I am exercising more! This is obviously not the case as my back has been really bad again recently after having no issues whatsoever when I was walking consistently every day!

I have been walking consistently this week (other than Monday where I stayed in bed all day and got a measly 897 steps in all day!) but I still haven’t been focused enough to get the 10000 steps in a day! Tuesday and Yesterday I did manage over 8000 steps a day but that’s not enough really so I will now re-focus and go back to walking 15000 steps a day again for the rest of the month to get back into the habit of walking again! This should be easier from this weekend as I am cancelling my Amazon Prime membership on the 12th May so I will not have any TV to watch and can therefore get back into the habit of walking, studying etc instead of watching TV 🙂 My nightly cleaning has also got more lax too so I need to re-up that as well! I am also going to delete Facebook from my phone again to try and stop wasting time on the phone too!

My back is starting to feel less stiff and I have way less knee and hip pain already from just walking in the morning for the past 3 days so I hope that being more focused on my walking will get me to a state where I can be pain free again sometime soon!

I am also going to go back to walking at the weekends again too as I think that deciding to not walk first thing when I wake up at the weekend has lead to the steady decline in my focus on walking and also led to my weight creeping back up too! So by re-focusing on the walking not only first thing but also throughout the day and getting any leftover steps in in the evening before I go on the rollers I will speed up my fitness and get to a place where I can actually squat with the barbell again!

I have been thinking about my issues with the barbells and I think tomorrow I will do my squats with my light bar to work on getting the flexibility back as soon as I can so that I can get back to using weight sooner rather than later. By using the light bar it will get me in the correct position but will not over stress the shoulder as it is really light so I can get more flexible then later on add the weight!

As I was hurting so much yesterday I didn’t do my plyos and roller sprint session so I will start them next week when I start working out on the correct days so I am taking this week as a practice week and I will start properly next week which also coincides with the track work starting so I can’t ride the BMX at lunch times for 2 weeks now 🙁 On a plus side this means that I can start to focus more on my weights, plyometrics and Roller Sprints and less on the BMX while the track is shut then I can slowly start to add BMX back in when the track is open again!

This evening I did some gates on the Black Market and I must say it was actually OK other than the gearing is a bit heavy and it has flat pedals on but I was more or less keeping up with people on it so I think that its going to be a good all around bike to ride for now 🙂 I had to stop after about 10 gates as my back was sore but I had a fun night and enjoyed the sun as well 🙂 I am starting to manual way better on the Black Market now and I am definitely way smoother on it than I am on the cruiser.

I noticed today that the white forks I have on the bike now are slightly bent back so come pay day I really need to buy some new forks! I may as well go 20mm as well as I prefer a 20mm front axle to the QR anyway so I think once they are swapped out the bike will be more or less perfect 🙂 I remembered I have a DXR brake on the GT Power Series so I will swap the lever out for the one that came with it then at the weekend I can stick on my spare Avid cable brake on the bike as I really don’t like the brake that is on there very much! I am used to the bar position now that the forks are lower so I think that I will live with the current cockpit as it rides really well!
