I am not going to be able to race this weekends National races as I am getting sick so I decided to spend the hotel money on a new frame as I am not totally happy with riding the Chase until the Curtis Frame is ready.
I was looking on ebay and found a brand new candy red S&M Steel Panther frame for sale so I put in an offer and bought it!
I figured that the frame is the same size (21.5″ top tube) as the Curtis so I can use it as a warm up for the Curtis so that when it arrives I will be used to riding a steel frame again so when the Curtis arrives it will not be such a big shock.
I had a black steel panther frame which was the same size as this one when they were first released so I know that I like them. I also had a 22′ top tube S&M speed wagon a few years ago so it shouldn’t take too long to get used to it. Once it has the Onyx rear wheel and the Chris King ceramic bottom bracket on it, it will feel really good anyway. There are a lot of riders at national level that race these frames and are really fast so I know that the frame is up to the job.
I also bought a second hand set of 175mm Shimano DXR cranks as I think that my knee is getting to the point where it can handle slightly longer cranks so once I get them I will be set and will not have to spend any more money on bikes until the Curtis arrives.
I think that the frame is being posted later today so it should arrive early next week then I can build it up and get the Speedco and Chase frames on facebook to sell to make some of the money back that I spent on the Steel panther. I am also going to get the dialled built up and try and sell that as well as it is just sat at home taking up space. Even with a dented top tube it should make about the same as the new frame so I can start paying off my credit card bill 🙂
Yesterday I also bought a set of Onyx Ultra wheels for the 20″ which my friend is picking up for me at Manchester and bringing back for me so I can also get the 20″ built up to ride too. I am thinking that I may double bike the rest of the regionals as I am not doing super well anyway then I can work on my fitness for the Worlds.
I also have all the parts to build up my Sunday 24″ park bike that I literally never use so I will get that on facebook/ ebay as well and try and sell that too to clear some more space. I am also going to sell one of my road bikes as I am not using them much any more.
After trialling an ebike for the past month I am seriously thinking that I may sell all my non bmx/ jump bikes and use the money to purchase an ebike to ride to the work/ the track on so that I don’t use my car as much as I normally do. I am thinking at the moment that I will get a road bike based ebike and then only use the motor when climbing the hills that way I get a workout but don’t over do it.
