Jump bike fixed. All Bike updates.

Last night I picked up my jump bike and brought it home with me to fix the issues that it had after my crash.

Looking at it the only real damage was to the grips and handlebar so I got really lucky to be honest. The bars just had cosmetic damage and the right grip also had cosmetic damage but the left grip looks like it wasn’t fully on the bar so it snapped off about 2 inches from the end of the bar!!

The left grip was the grip that the screw was rounded off on anyway so I cut it off and then removed the other grip as well and replaced the grips with the ODI Vans grips that I had bought to go on my 20″ but never bothered to put them on.

While I was messing with the bike I found that the bars were about an inch wider than my cruiser bars so when I get my cutting tool back I will cut the bars down to the same length as my Cruisers so that all my bikes have the same feel to them. I think that the width of the bars was helping to make the bike feel bigger so once they are the same width as my other bikes and now they have the same grips it should make it way easier to swap between them.

I am off to the Brits in Bournemouth tomorrow so I will buy a 2 new seats (one for the Pure and one for the Jump bike) and a new 36t chain ring to go on the Pure and then the Pure is built up and ready to sell to my friend once he is ready. I also need to swap the cranks off of the Jump bike onto the Pure as I want to keep the DXR’s that are on the Pure as they will go on my next bike when I build it. (Most likely the Yess until I want to try the Supercross or when the Curtis is ready). I am also taking my Chris King ceramic Bottom Bracket off of the Pure as I want to keep that as it is an amazing bottom bracket and I don’t want to lose it.

I will also pick up my Meybo Cruiser that I lent to my friend and then I can get the forks off of that to go on the Pure as well. The pure currently has Yess forks on them and I want them to go on the Yess frame that I am picking up tomorrow after the lad that is selling me the frame finishes racing.

The rest of the parts from the Meybo will be moved onto the Speedco ready to sell that too. I am not sure which cranks I will put on the Speedco as the Meybo has my other set of DXR’s off of my 20″ and I want to keep them so that they can go on my old Curtis when I get it back so that I can use it as my training bike/ my son’s bike. They will have to go on my Jump bike for now as I will not have any cranks on the Jump bike after they have been put on the Pure to sell it.

The idea for my bikes next year is to use the Curtis that I have lent out as my training bike (When I can train again) and my new frame that I am getting for my 50th Birthday will be built up with my New Onyx Disk Wheelset, the new set of Yess Reach forks that I ought for this build, a set of the dxr parts and then the rest of the parts that I have saved. The old Curtis has everything except a set of cranks on it so I can put my other set of DXR’s on it and it will be ready to ride once I get a 17t freewheel on it to drop my gearing to start really spinning. I have just put in an order for a 17 profile elite freewheel as they are out of stock at the moment. Hopefully I can get one soon.

I will then build up the new Curtis and use it just for racing and gates when my Son is riding as well so that it stays in tip top shape for racing. The frames will be pretty much identical other than the new frame is 10mm drop outs and disk brake and the old frame is 20mm dropouts and V Brake. The old bike has Profile elite hubs with 20mm adaptors on it so they are perfect for a winter/ training bike as the bearings in the elites are really hard wearing and the bearings in the Onyx wheels on the new frame not so much so by not riding it too much it should prolong the life of the bearings! I am also thinking that I will use a mechanical disk brake on the new bike so that I can use a dxr lever on it so that the brake lever will be identical on both bikes as well! I will also get identical bars and stems so that the bikes feel the same.

I am also thinking that I may upgrade my jump frame next year to a Curtis as well then my race Cruisers and Jump bike are all the same make and all ride the same. This also means that I can forget about upgrading my frame each year and concentrate on getting used to the bikes and learning to ride faster and smoother!

So essentially for the moment I am doing the following changes:

Jump Bike:

Swap cranks for DXR’s off of the Pure

New Race seat to replace the fat freestyle seat

Pure:

Fit cranks from Jump bike

Remove Chris King Bottom Bracket and put on new Shimano one.

Fit new chain ring

Fit forks from the Meybo

Fit new seat and post to keep the Box seat currently on it.

Fit normal tubes to keep the Tubolitos for next bike build.

Speedco

Put parts on Speedco ready to sell.
