Impromptu Weigh-in and new bike day (Pure Flux One)

I woke up this morning and did an impromptu weigh-in and I was surprised to see that I was down to 105.3 kgs this morning which is the lightest that I have been since 01/01/2021 so that’s pretty good going for just over 1 month of cutting out Coca Cola and Doing intermittent fasting properly and consistently! I am currently 2.2I was at the start of the year which is good going for just over a Month! Especially as I have done minimal exercise this month other than walking to the office and back a few days a week.

Last night I won a Pure Flux One Electric Hybrid Bike on ebay for a decent price in the Town nearest my parents house so my son and myself visited my Parents this afternoon and we picked up the bike on the way home this evening.

The bike is in pretty much new condition and has done only 1000 miles so has very little use so it was a really good buy. We had a little play in the estate when we got it home and it is super fun to ride and the belt drive makes it really quiet to ride. I couldn’t get my son off of it which was great to see as usually he isn’t really bothered about riding bikes! The only issue with the bike was the brakes were really bad but I noticed when we get the bike indoors that both brakes had a lot of adjustment left on them so I opened up the screws a bit and the brakes seem better. I will test them out tomorrow and see how they are. In case the brakes are still bad I bought some Zoom Xtech Cable actuated Hydraulic MTB disk brakes as my friend is using one of these on his race BMX and says that they are OK. If I don’t use them on the Pure I can always use the rear brake on my Curtis build when its ready. I figure that swapping out the calipers will be the easiest way to give the Pure more stopping power without spending too much money. The pair of calipers was only £30 and I can use the current levers and cables so it should be an easy swap and should improve the braking a fair bit.

Other than that the plan is to leave the bike as is and just use it until things need changing but that may change and I am already looking at maybe upgrading the bars and stem for some Nukeproof MTB ones to make the cockpit less cramped and make the bike feel a bit more like an MTB / Jump bike. Although as I think out loud I have remembered that I have some spare bars and stem in the garage so I will use them for now and if needed I will buy some new ones at a later date!

My plan for the ebike is to make is easier to ride from the office to the track at Lunch time so that I can start getting laps in to try and get BMX fit and lose weight faster than I have been doing. I will try the bike out tomorrow lunch time and see how it goes. Basically my office is at one of the lowest points in Bath and the track is at one of the highest points in Bath (Odddown) so I basically have to climb 2 of the highest steepest hills in Bath to get to the track! I tried doing it on my road bike but by the time that I got to the track I was exhausted and couldn’t train on the track! My thinking is that the ebike will take enough of the sting out of the climb to allow me to use it as a warm-up and allow me to train afterwards. Going home is not an issue as it is down hill pretty much all the way so I can go hard at the track and get home easily!

I really hope that the Pure is up to the job as I really like the way the bike looks and from the little that I rode it this evening it felt really good. The bike also came with after-market mudguards and a gel seat cover so it should be a great commuter bike to boot 🙂

Tomorrow afternoon I will also take the Jump bike to the track and leave it in the container along with my body armour and winter clipless shoes so that I can start doing pump laps at lunch times and with all my equipment already at the track I can ride up on the ebike instead of having to take the car. By replacing the car with the ebike it shouldn’t take too long for the ebike to pay for its self by saving petrol money and wear and tear on the car but also save time as I can go straight from the office instead of having to go home and pack the car before driving to the track if I was to take the car!

Tomorrow afternoon I am also going to add a water bottle carrier to the ebike so that I will have water easily available when training.
