Today I was on holiday so I have spent the day organising the house and getting the rollers setup ready to use.
I put the tacx tyre on my road bike and got it set up on the rollers and got it working with my Mac setup so that I could follow along with the GBN HITT training video.
I then tried to complete a session and failed miserably with only 3 of the 8 30 second sprint sessions done 🤦♂️
I am going to try again Friday, only this time I will do the session earlier and I will also try it on the Cruiser to see if it is any better as I had difficulty gauging the correct gearing to use. So using the BMX will solve this issue as I will only have the correct gearing on and putting the long seat post in will make the recovery the same as it would be at racing.
I will also try and stand up on the BMX when I sprint to mimic racing mg as well and try and practice the correct positioning as well. It may mean that I have to change the position of the rollers but that is fine.
While getting ready today I took a look at my cleats and noticed that they are about 1mm think so I need to get a new set ordered soon.
I also need to get my speed and cadence sensors hooked up again so that I can monitor my progress over time. At the moment this is not an issue as I have to set a goal of making more than the warmup, 3x sprints and cool downs with the ultimate goal of making it through the whole video without having to stop!
I have also decided that I do not like the road bike on the rollers too much so I will only use them when the weather is so bad that it is dangerous to ride. I am going to remove the tyre from the bike again now so that it is ready to ride on the road the next time I need to ride it.
Tomorrow in the morning I am going to take the bikes to the container and try out the jump bike on the track to see how rides. Then in the evening I am going to Burnham to get a gates session in before the race on Sunday.
I am still undecided if I will race on Sunday but I plan to make my mind up tomorrow night then if I am going to race I will do practice on the Saturday as well.
Tomorrow I plan to try and do my gates training which is 3 warmup gates and pump the track followed by 1 gate full speed to the end of the first straight, 1 gate full speed first and second straight, 1 full speed first, second and third straight and then 1 full speed whole track. Rest for 10 minutes and then do the same again. If I have anything left in the tank I want to practice on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th straights as I don’t really ride them in anger ever as I am usually just doing gates and first straights.
At the moment I am thinking that I am going to race and use it as a training session as I have noting to race for as I have not done enough races to get a regional ranking so using it as a training race makes more sense than racing for no reason. And it definitely makes more sense than not racing at all. It all depends how my body holds up tomorrow night really.
