I got this bike off of a friend at the club in exchange for some forks and some other bits at the end of the summer and I originally bought it to ride to the office on and bought new cranks and Sprocket and a new HALO CLICKSTER freewheel and put a new chain, stem bars and grips and tyres on it as the original parts were a bit crappy or the wrong sizes etc.
I rode it to work for a few weeks then twisted my ankle so I took it to my parents house for storage until I found a use for it! I was originally going to use it as my container bike but I have since got my Chase OS20 built up and that is the perfect container bike so I had no use for the GT but didn’t want to sell it!
This morning I decided that in the new year I will use the GT PRO SERIES 24 as my ride to the office/ lunchtime sprint bike so I have just bought a new DXR Brake caliper and lever which will arrive on the 4th Jan so that I can stop the bike after sprints as the current brake sticks so it works but then the calipers are really slow to disengage again the the lever stays pulled in! I tired a new cable and some motorbike brake lube but the brake is still the same so a new brake it is! To be honest I wanted to put DXR Brakes on the bike at the time but I couldn’t warrant spending any more money on it at the time as it was fully useable to ride to work! Stopping after high speed sprints is another story so I now have a reason to upgrade the breaks 🙂
Current specs of the Bike are:
Frame – GT Power Series 24 (2004 I think)
Forks – GT Power Series 24
Wheels – GT Power Series 14mm wheels + Halo Clickster 18T Freewheel
Tyres – Tioga Power Block 24″ (24×1.75 front, 24×1.60 rear)
Cranks – Sunday Saker V2 175mm
Chain Ring – FSA 42T Sprocket
Chain – KMC k1 Narrow Chain
Pedals – Burgtech MK4 Composite Pedals
Stem – S&M Redneck XLT 54mm
Bars – Inspyre 5.5″ Cruiser Bars
Grips – ODI/ Vans
Brake – Shimano DXRÂ MX70 Caliper
Brake Lever – Shimano BL-MX70 left handed lever
Seat – GT
The bars on this bike are temporary as I lent the Staysrong flat bars that I bought for the bike to my friend to try out as he had them on his 20″ but not his cruiser so was struggling to get the cruiser to feel like the 20″ I will get them back and then fit them on the GT again so that the GT feels more similar to my Curtis so switching between the 2 will be easier!
The only thing left to change at some point is to swap out the cranks and bottom bracket for some Shimano DXR cranks and a decent bottom bracket but that will have to wait until I get my DXR’s back from a friend who has been borrowing them. The ones on there will do for now I think although I know a friend has the same cranks on a bike that I sold him and they keep coming lose so I will need to keep an eye on that as the last thing I want is for a crank arm to fall off mid sprint! Also all my other bikes have DXR’s on so it would be nice for the GT to be built the same so it feels the same pedalling as all the others do!
The bike will stay like it is now until I get some Shimano DXR cranks for it but all mine are currently lent out so it will have to stay like it is until I get some back!
