Had really good weekend racing at the Bath Regional.
It was the first time that I rode 2 bikes and I have to say it was really hard but really fun.
On the Saturday I woke up early and packed the car ready to leave home by 8:30 so that I was at Crucial BMX by 9am to pick up my new Maxxis Torch 20×1.75 tyres and some number plate numbers for the Dialled MX20R. I then drove to the Bath track and fitted the tyres and the Tubolito tubes to the bike and pumped them up just in time to start Matt’s pre-regional training.
I rode the 20″ all training session to really get used to it which I think I did pretty well! After the training I did gates for an hour or so and swapped bikes every lap/ gate which was strange and felt really uncomfortable but got less so with every lap. After about an hour I was done so I went to my parents house and tried unsuccessfully to free sprocket from the halo driver with my dad’s vice so I gave up and chilled out a bit then went home to get ready for racing tomorrow and get to bed early.
Sunday I was up at 5:30 and got to the track for 6:30 and setup the pens and then was on the gate controlling who drove to the track and who didn’t as there was limited space. I then went and got kitted up and did practice. I only did a couple of gates on each bike and then chilled before the motos were posted!
By the middle of the dat I had stopped worrying about which bike I was riding and I was just riding.
I actually managed to win a moto on the Cruiser only to find out that we had semi’s so it made no difference really other than making sure I got into the top 16 so make the semi. This was my fastest lap of the day even though it was my 3rd moto of the day which I was pretty pleased about although it basically ruined mt for the rest of my moto’s 🙂
To my dismay the semis were right after the last motos which meant that I literally had 6 motos rest between my last moto and the semi. Needless to say I didn’t try at all in the semi as I had no legs left from doing 6 motos! In the 20″ I missed out on the last spot due to moto imbalance but I wasn’t too bothered as there was only one rider from my age group in the A final on the 20″ so it made very little difference if I won the B final as all the other riders in the B final were in my age group too.
As I was way down in my age group rankings in the Cruiser and a lot of the guys above me were in the A final I decided to pump round and save energy for the 20″ b final. I had 12 races between my cruiser final and the 20″ final so I was recovered enough to get out of the gate well and get in my 3rd fastest lap of the day and I won the final so ended the day on a positive note and finished 2nd in my age group.
At the end of the day I did 3 laps under 34 second which is OK although the fastest guys in my age group were quite a bit faster than me:

Once racing had finished I was able to get a beer and chill out a bit and watch the rest of the finals which was pretty good fun. I then helped clear up and drank a few more beers before going home and soaking in a warm bath for a an hour or so before eating a load of pineapple to try and stop the muscles aching in the morning and then I went to bed early.
