Good weekend BMX Racing

The weekend was pretty full on as we had the regional at Bath so Saturday and Sunday was spent setting up for racing.

I marshalled for the warmup laps and then when the under 12’s gates started I got relieved and then went and got kitted up and warmed up ready for gates.

Gates went well and I was feeling strong and pretty quick so was pretty happy going into the first moto although I had gate 4 which I wasn’t super happy about as Iprefer 7 or 8 in my first moto. When the gate dropped I was out of it really quickly and was surprised to find that I was in 2nd place on the back wheel of the leader! I held second down the 2nd straight but when I tried to pedal out of the second berm my legs went hand I had nothing left and dropped a place by the 3rd berm but managed to hold 3rd which was better than I was expecting.

The next 2 motos were pretty hard and I got 4th ant 5th and just managed to scrape the A final in 8th place!!!

In the final I had gate 7 and again few out of the gate and was in 3rd going into the first berm but left the berm open and lost a place so finished 4th over all and 3rd in my age group!

Overall I am pretty happy with how I rode although I was severely lacking in leg fitness although my aerobic fitness is getting way better as I wasn’t limited by not being able to breath for a change. I’m not too worried about the leg fitness as that will come with riding over the winter.

I was super happy that I was on the back wheel of the number4 rider in my age group on the first straight so I am not as far off of the pace out of the gate as I thought! I think with a winter for sprints I can be at least close to the faster guys by next season so I just need to knuckle down and train consistently over the winter and I think that I will be ok.

I was super happy at my adjustment to the lower 36×16 gearing although I think that it was to blame for my legs blowing up after 2 straights but I think I can quickly get used to it and get to a point where I can ride flat out over the whole track not just the first 2 straights!!

I am now super happy with the bike setup and will leave it alone now and just learn to ride it now!

I think that I am now putting the Cruiser away for a bit and riding the 20″ for a bit as it is harder on the legs so should sort my leg fitness a bit.

I will get back on the Cruiser before the SW Champs to get ready.
