First sprint session on the Meybo

Took the Meybo to sprints tonight and I felt way faster that I have in recent weeks. Unfortunately we forgot a tape measure for setup the timing system so we guessed 25m and 50m as we had a rough idea of where they were and then went head to head again which was fun. My training partner said it was harder to catch me up tonight and I managed to get to 25m before he caught me a couple of times which I wasn’t able to do last week which is good. Still got my arse kicked over 50m but I was able to finish a bike length to a couple of bike length’s away from him which was way closer than last week too.

My Son also went tonight for the first time and he is liking his bike now too so I may leave him on it now and maybe get a disk brake cruiser frame to build up to use on pump tracks etc as disk brakes just work better for that kind of thing. The other option is to get a disk adaptor for the Meybo and use the StayStrong wheels that I bought my son for xmas by mistake as my training/ winter wheels and then get a set of Onyx disk hubs built up to race on in March.

I think that you can get a universal disk brake adaptor for about £60 so it may be worth a trying that. This would mean that I can get my profile elite hubs that are currently on the Meybo built up with 20″ rims and build my 20″ back up again. Disk brake will make it way easier to swap the wheels over so I think this will make way more sense and mean that I only need one bike for training and racing which will save money and also mean that I will be totally happy on the bike.

Also the money saved on a new frame, cranks, bars etc would mean that I could get some carbon rims and ti spokes instead and just use them for racing as they will make a bigger performance boost than having 2 bikes etc.

I am feeling much more comfortable on the Meybo than I was on the Speedco as it has way more space and I am able to get into a more comfortable sprint position than I was on the Speedco due to the shorter top tube. It will be interesting to see how the bikes fair time wise next week.

I am off to Bristol to try and race this evening so I will be able to see how the Meybo feels on the track then.
