I woke up at 3:30 this morning as my legs were in bits so I decided to have a rest day today! On a positive note my ankle feels OK so I think I will be OK to start training on Tuesday.
I couldn’t get back to sleep so I messed about on my phone and researched paining bike frames until about 6:30 then I got up at got showered and drove to Wick and took a look at the pump track. It was exactly 15 minutes from home to the track and it has a car park right next to it so I may well try it out on Tuesday! The track is in need of a refresh as the lips are a bit work and the surface is really bad so I definitely think that it’d a track for the DJ bike but it looks ridable and fun so we will see.
I was super tired when I got back so I went back to bed and slept until about 13:30. When I got up I wiped the Black Market Contraband 24″ frame down with pre paint wipes and left it to dry. I also got my old work stand out to use to hold the frame to paint when the paint arrived.
I also found an old seat post and the seat post bolt and put that on the frame as well so that I could hold the frame in the work stand to spray the frame.
The paint arrived about 17:30 so I got the frame outside in the old work stand and did the first coat of paint. It looks much better already but there are a few places I went a bit heavy and the paint has run!
Along with the paint runs there are also a couple of mosquito’s in the new paint as well 🙁 I will have to wet sand it tomorrow ready for the second coat of chrome paint. Once that is done I will also need to give it a few coats of clear coat to protect the paint to keep it looking OK for longer!
I will make up some stickers tomorrow too. I am thinking I will make black and also carbon to see which I like better then go with the best ones! I am just going to find some bolts to go in the disk brake mount holes to clean out the paint and protect the threads for the rest of the paining as one of the holes is already full!
Now that the paint has been drying for a couple of hours it is looking pretty good for just one coat.
I have also just bought an S&M Long Johnson 27.2 mm Polished seat post as it was the last one left and also a Halo DJD Sprocket Removal Tool for the Supadrive hub that is getting built up at the moment. This means that when I get the wheels back I can remove the 16t sprocket and replace it with the 11t needed to have the correct gearing! The only parts that I need to get still are some chain tensioners and some rim tape then I have everything to build the bike once the seat post arrives 🙂 I think that its going to take most of this week to get the frame finished then I will start stripping down my DMR jump bike and start building up the Black Market. I also have to take the cranks off of the GT Power Series 24″ to use as the Black Market has a mid BB so they are the only cranks that I have that will work with the bottom bracket.
