Decided to keep my Yess Type X cruiser for now!

Yess Type X

Today I made the decision that I am not going to sell the Yess Type X cruiser at the moment! I am instead taking the wheels and cranks off of the Inspyre and the bars, stem and forks that I put on the Inspyre during the week and building up my Yess Type X as my training bike for now. I am then going to put the GT wheelset, cranks, forks and bars back onto the Inspyre and then my friend is going to buy it off of me so that he can race this season on it.

I really can’t get on with the Inspyre and my friend really likes it so he is happy to have the Inspyre and I am happy to keep the Yess for now. If I do sell it my friend still has first dibs so he will most likely get the Yess if I sell it.

Yess Type X

This afternoon I went up to the track to help out with gates if needed and play on my the Inspyre and the NS jump bike. I ended up riding mostly the NS as I couldn’t get comfortable on the Inspyre at all. I also didn’t like doing gates on the Jump bike as it has flat pedals at the moment which I’m not a fan of out of the gate at all!

I am thinking that I will out the clipless pedals off of the Yess onto the Jump bike and use my shimano MTB shoes with the Shimano pedals and then put my new HT Pedals onto the Yess and put the cleats for the HT pedals on my Sidi race shoes for when I am on the Yess. I am not leaving the Yess at the track so I will only be able to ride it at weekends and Monday afternoons which I have off as I am on call Friday nights so I will mostly be riding the Jump bike during the week. I may do some early morning sprints sessions on the Yess as well in which case I will drive to the track anyway as there is no traffic first thing in the morning when I do sprints anyway.

My shoulder held up pretty well today so I am hoping that I can keep training on it from now on and it will keep getting stronger but we will see.

When I got home from the track I built up the Yess fully so it it now ready for me to have a play on tomorrow after racing finishes. Unfortunately, the GT wheels on that are going onto the Inspyre do not fit into the disk brake adapter on the Inspyre as the hubs are 15mm with 10mm bolds and the disk adapter is made for 10mm wheels. I will have to file down the cone on the disk adapter side so that it will fit but I was too tired to get it done tonight so it will have to wait until tomorrow or next week. My friend isn’t in any hurry for the Inspyre so I can get it done during the week.

The Yess now has the parts from the Inspyre on it so Pride Wheels, Pride Joyride Cranks as well the Yess Reach forks, S&M 29er race bars and the S&M front load stem that I put on the Inspyre during the week. The yess looks way better with the black pride cranks on it compared to the Silver DXR cranks that are on it in the photo above so I think that I will leave them on there for now. I will take some photos tomorrow when I am at the track and post them after I have had a play on the Yess to see if I like it or not.

At the moment the Yess is running a 41×18 gearing but the wheel seems to be a lot further back in the dropouts than it sat with the 36×16 in the photo too. I hope that this doesn’t make the Yess ride weird but we will see tomorrow. If its really bad I will switch it back to a 36×16 instead to see if I can get the wheel more slammed than I can at the moment! The problem is that with the disk adapter the wheel can not be slammed like it can if it is using the normal chain tensioners for a V-brake so I had to leave more links in to allow for that which means that the wheel had to pulled a long way back to get the chain tight. It shouldn’t be a big deal as the Yess frames have really short back ends anyway so even with it far back in the dropouts it will be more slammed than the Inspyre was as its backend was way longer which I think was one of the issues with it!

I was really surprised how well the Pride wheel set performed today when I did a gate too so I am definitely leaving them on the Yess for the forceable future until I start racing properly again and then I will have the Curtis built up with my Box wheels on it so I will leave the Yess as it is and most likely sell it once I have the Curtis setup and running.

I am still wanting to get a Standard 26″ frame and I will most likely order on next week to build up instead of my Airdrop Fade and I will hang the Airdrop frame on the wall as I like it but it is just too big for me.

While I am riding the Jump bikes more I really want to learn to jump again as over the past few years I have pretty much lost the ability to jump so now i have the bouncy forks on the Jump bikes I may as well get out of my comfort zone and start jumping again. I think that this coming month I will ride the 3rd straight more as it is our jumpy straight and everyone who rides that a lot gets really good at jumping really quickly and is then able to jump most, if not all of the jumps on the rest of the track easily. This should mean that once I start riding the BMX more I should have the confidence to jump on it too.

Jumping is a real weakness of mine and at Nationals it cost me a lot of time as on 3/4 of all the tracks the first jump was really peaky and deep and the only fast way to get over it was to jump and as I couldn’t jump I had to do a jumal (Jump Manual) which is way slower and a lot more painful on the wrists than jumping! Hopefully after a year on the jump bike I will be jumping like a pro and can do better at nationals because of it when I come back to racing.
