December 2020

01/12/2020

November was pretty much a write off cycling wise so I plan to get back to it this month. I have just set up my Wahoo Speed and Cadence sensors on my road bike and set the bike up on the rollers as I can’t ride outside today as I have my parents dog here with me and she is not good left alone.

I also want to get used to riding the rollers as I think that I will be doing most of my riding on the rollers this winter as it is much less hassle than riding outside. I also figure that riding indoors will help keep the bike in one piece for longer which will help with my goal of having a zero spend year.

I am going to buy a second speed sensor to go on my race BMX too so that I can use the same system on both bikes for training monitoring and also setting training goals.

I am waiting for my breakfast to go down and then I will have my first ride on the rollers. I am going to take it really easy today to ease my way into riding again and try and do an hour without stopping. I also want to concentrate on learning to ride at a higher cadence as it will be beneficial to both BMX and road riding compared to just turning a really high gear slowly on the road bike which will have no real be for the BMX other than improved fitness.

Only managed 20 minutes today as the dog was not happy with the rollers at all. I found out that my current natural cadence is 80-85 rpm. I want to get that up to about 110 rpm by the time the BMX race season starts so I am planning to change up my training and do shorter rides on the rollers at high rpms to get my body used to the higher rpms.

I rode for 20 minutes today and did 4.83 miles, with an average speed of 14.45mph.

Not great numbers but it’s a start at least.

I must say that I am impressed with the Wahoo app as it automatically sends the data to Strava for analysis which is amazing.
