Busy Day – Got the Standard 125R Cruiser back

So this morning I woke up at 5 am and did my weigh-in (Up to 103.9 kgs!) and showered and got dressed then I did some work until 6am when I got the jump bike and rode into the office and did some work until about 7:30 then rode home again.

I then worked until 4pm without a lunch break and then I went into the bath as my piles were sore and then got dressed and went to the track and set up for gates!

I then had to shoot off and pick up my son at 6 and by the time I found him and dropped him off at his mums house and drove back to gates it was already almost 7pm so I did an hour of gates and then chatted for a bit and then headed home. While at gates I grabbed my Standard 125R Cruiser that I bought over the winter and had been lending to my friends daughter to ride but she wasn’t enjoying it so I got it back to use as my winter/ Sprints bike.

When I got home I set about building the Standard up as I had lent it with no stem, bars, bottom bracket, cranks, freewheel or chain so I got to grabbing bits off my other bikes to build it up. Luckily the GT cranks that I bought at the weekend arrived yesterday so I had everything to build up the bike except the freewheel and chain which I will have to grab off of my GT which is at my parents house at the moment!

I took the S&M race bars off of the Supercross and today I will put the StayStrong bars off of the DK onto the Supercross so that my Son can ride it at the weekend. I plan to use the Standard as my everything except gates and racing bike which will still be the Curtis so the Standard will essentially replace the DK as my riding to work/ Sprints bike and it will become my pump track bike as well I think and replace the Black Market so I can use 1 bike to replace 2 bikes.

I am going to break down the DK tomorrow and take it to my parents house to keep in the garage over the winter then I may build it up for next summer to ride about on but I’m not really sure yet! I will be taking the bars and front wheels for the Supercross and it had the cooldown seat on it so that will stay here too so its will basically be the whole back end plus forks, headset, stem and brakes and thats it! I will leave the Amazon cranks on there for now as it means that all the parts are in one place.

I plan to pop over to my parents house at lunch time and dump the DK and grab the GT so that I can build the Standard tonight ready to test it tomorrow morning.

I am really pleased how the Standard looks and comparing it to the Curtis with the longer stem on it looks to be very similar in length and geometry but we will see when I take it for a ride at the weekend!

I have purposely built up the Standard with Halo freewheel wheels so that I will really feel the benefit of the Onyx when I get on the Curtis so it will really feel like my race bike when I am on it. It also means that I have to work a little bit harder on the Standard which is good for a training bike right?

For now I am going to run a 41 x 16 on the Standard which will be my race gearing next year I think but I may well move to a 42 x 18 over the winter and convert the Curtis to 41 x 18 so its ready to go when I need it! Once the Standard is built up the only thing that I need to change is the chain tensioners as I would prefer black ones and it currently has red ones on as they were the only ones that I could get to work with the dropouts on the frame. Its not a mechanical issue just a bike ocd issue so it can wait!

Other than that I am pleased how the bike has built up:

I have decided that I will hold off on building the OS 20 Standard until next year once I have saved the money to pay for all the parts as it still needs most of the expensive parts to get the build finished! I am going to prioritise getting a Gravel bike so that I can go for road rides at lunch times to lose weight and gain base fitness!

Although I didn’t do any specific walking I did manage to get to 9721 steps which is a good sign that I am keeping a bit more active!
