So I had a really busy bank holiday and rode the BMX every day except Monday when I stayed at home and organised the flat.
Thursday night was a coaching session with Matt Eaton, Saturday was a gates session at Bath BMX then Sunday was a few hours at Bristol BMX and then over to Little Stoke pump track to finish the day (and me) off.
I really liked Little Stoke although the part where the 2 berms merge is super dangerous and ruined the flow as you have to keep stopping to not crash into someone else riding the track at the same time.
Riding at Bristol BMX Track highlighted just how out of shape I am as I couldn’t even do 2 straights at 80% speed without blowing out of my arse but I think I am ready to race at the weekend as training at least.
Monday while re-organising my flat I found 2 Tubolito’s that I had bought for my jump bike and forgotten that I had so I put them on the jump bike and I am amazed how much lighter the wheels feel and how much better they spin. I will try the bike out at gates at Bristol tomorrow night to see how the change in weight affects the way the bike rides 🙂 I am hoping that it loses the heavy bulky feeling that the bike had before when trying to sprint on it. The only issue that I have with the Tubolitos is that the valve stems are orange which clashes with the Yellow Maxxis logos on the tyres so I may have to cover them up with black tape later on, or just don’t look at the bike 🤣
I also sprayed the spare brake hose clamp that I bought for the Yess matt black as I didn’t like the way that the raw aluminium one looks at the moment. The Matt black will go much better with the Yellow and black of the rest of the bike once it is replaced:
This this morning I was still a bit tired so I had a lie in and didn’t walk or do weights before work even though I did get my room sorted so that I can work out.
I did get my weights routine done in between my shift finishing and starting my on call shift so I haven’t wasted the entire day. I am finding the bench press too easy again so I will have to up the weight again on Thursday morning when I work out again.
I have decided that I will hold off on sprints until next week as I am still pretty tired and need to focus on full laps this week to try and get used to them by the weekend!
I also signed up to race at the weekend at Bristol as my shoulder is not much of an issue when riding now so I may as well race to get into race shape as I am not taking the racing too serious this year anyway as I wasn’t expecting to be able to ride as much as I can at the moment! I am pretty certain that I will race the jump bike anyway to make sure that I don’t get too ahead of myself and hurt my shoulder again.
I have booked Friday off to go to the Bristol track and try and get some laps in to see if I can actually do the full laps or not.
I may also pop over to get my wheel from Gary at Curtis bikes on Friday as well so that I if I decide to race on the Yess instead of the jump bike I have the Onyx wheel!
My new half link chain will be arriving tomorrow so I can hopefully get the Yess setup correctly and take it to gates tomorrow night to see if I get any pain when I ride it or not. If I can’t get it ready for tomorrow night then I will definitely get it ready and take it to coaching on Thursday night to try it out.
