Bought a DMR Sect Frame

Got an email from Standard to say that they are out of stock in the Jump bike frames at the moment and did I want to wait for frames to be built so I have bought a DMR Sect frame to try out for the meantime as I want to get a Steel frame Jump bike that will run a 32×16 gearing and has a tapered head tube as well so that I can strip down my Airdrop Fade and use all the parts on the Steel Frame. I almost bought a Curtis Jump bike off of ebay but it didn’t have a tapered head tube so I wouldn’t have been able to use my DJ Pikes on it so I didn’t buy it. It was also a lot of money when all I wanted was the frame.

The DMR Sect Frame fits the bill as it has enough space for a 32t chain ring and a tapered headset and it also has their taperlock wheel locking system so there is no need for chain tensioners as the taperlock holds the wheel in position. I had been thinking about trying one for a while so I decided as there was one in stock that I would buy it and try it.

I went for the Graphite Grey as I love a grey frame and I much prefer it to yellow which was the other option. The frame should be here early next week so I will build it up and test it then. The only difference between the DMR and the Airdrop Fade is the seat tube width with the DMR using a Race BMX width seat tube (27.2  I think) which is awesome as I can use my Box One carbon seat and post on the DMR instead of a Mountain bike specific seat and post on the Airdrop. I love the Box seat and post as it’s light and is pretty small so it doesn’t get in the way at all where as I find the seat on the Airdrop a bit big and it gets in the way a bit!

I am going to leave the NS built up as it is and leave it in the container as it will get it out of my flat and also means that I can ride it to train on during the week so that I can ride the ebike to the track and train instead of driving. It also means that at the weekends when I only have the DMR to take to the track as my son will be riding the NS which is already there!  It also means that I can ride the DMR during the week too if I want to go out for a ride after work to practice manuals etc I can. My training during the week is more skill based at the moment anyway (Pumping, Manuals and Jumps) so the NS will be fine as none of this practice involves race specific pedalling so the difference in gearing will not make much of a difference.

The DMR is basically going to be my race bike this year if I like it and it will be set up with an almost identical gearing (32×16) to my BMX race gearing (36×16) so it should ride and feel the same out of the gate as the BMX.

Once I have ridden the DMR I will decide if I will get a Standard frame or not or speak to Gary at Curtis to make me a Curtis Jump bike instead. Or just keep the DMR if I like it. I am hoping that starting weights will get my shoulder back working properly then I can get back on the BMX anyway so there will be no need for the Jump bike other than for pump tracks anyway so there is no point spending out £800-1500 on a frame.

My new Maxxis DTH 26×2.15 folding tyres have also just arrived so I can get them on the DMR Sect when it is built up too:
