So I have been thinking about my training plan while I’m at the skatepark and I have been researching online and I have come up with a list of basic tricks that I need to learn and work on to get the building blocks to get good in the skatepark and they are:
- Bunny Hop
- Manual
- Fakie
- Drop in
- Grind (Double Peg Grind)
- Air
- Nose Manual
Once these basic skills have been learnt I can then move on to learning tricks that incorporate some or all of the skills. such as:
- 180
- 360
- Nollie
- Kick flip (Crank flip)
- Bar Spin
- Advanced Grinds (Ice Pick, Tooth pick and Smith)
- Crank Arm Grind
- Tail Whip
Once you have all of these tricks down then riding the park is opened up and you can start doing lines etc.
My Bunny hops are already pretty good and I can already bunny hop 1.5ft-2ft or more so for now I will call that learnt for now or though its not really learnt until you can bunny hop bar height but I can work on them more once I have learnt all the other skills! So this month I will work on learning Manuals and get comfortable with Dropping in as I can do it but it scares the crap out of me still and I can’t sack up to drop into the bowl yet still 🙁 I can also manual well on a BMX track so I just have to learn to manual at low speeds and on the flat so that should be easier than learning everything from scratch!
I don’t have pegs at the moment so I can’t learn to grind until I have pegs so I will wait until next month at the earliest to get some pegs. I also want to get some new wheels with a planetary free-coaster as it is more like a casette hub than a freecoaster. I have tried freecoaster wheels before and I hated them as I hated the slack before you pedal as my race bike has Onyx Hubs with instant engagement so my body expects the bike to engage instantly not in 1/2 a pedal turn that my old freecoaster did. I also want hubs with hub guards as they make grinding easier and my current wheels didn’t come with any hub guards.
