Beast Training day 30 – 23/12/2023

So today has been a kind of weird day! I woke up at 6am and did my weigh in and was 107.1kgs so heavier again! I then got ready and went to the supermarket to get my xmas shopping which was a great idea as the shop wasn’t really busy yet!

I then went home and chilled until 10:00 when I got ready and went to the track to setup for gates. The weather was crap so I left the Curtis in the car and rode the Chase OS20 conversion instead. I did a few warmup laps then we started on gates and I raced one of the younger kids to get him a bit more motivated! I lost the first one as it was basically my warmup gate. I then won the next 2 but on the 3rd gate there was a massive crash so we called it a day and I had to take my friend who crashed to the hospital as he hurt his hand!

I really felt the difference from doing the sprints yesterday so I am hoping that after a few weeks of consistently doing the sprints and weights I will get faster too as I am still well off my fastest race pace from before I was injured so training consistently I should get back to it!

I was planning to get the rest of my steps in after gates but by the time I got home from the hospital (about 4 hours later!) I was on just over 5000 steps which was better than expected but I was super hungry so I ate and watched a film and then at 20:30 I got on the treadmill and I am still walking to get my 12500 steps in for the day! It is taking a long time today to get my steps in so I’m not sure if its a fitbit issue or what but I have been walking for almost an hour and I’m still not over 10000 steps :- (

I will carry on until I get the 12500 steps and then call it a night as I want to get up early in the morning and get my steps in early as I am going to my brother’s house for xmas dinner tomorrow lunch time so I will not be getting any steps in later on!

I have been watching a Greg Romero video on getting faster and he was talking about one of the team USA guys who literally just did Sprints and squats to get faster so that is what I am going to do so on weights sessions I will exclusively do bench press and squats exclusively. This should build both upper body and lower body strength and the sprints should turn that extra strength to bike power. To start with I will do light weight and high reps especially for squats to get my full range of motion better so that I can slowly build up the weight through the full range of motion therefore improving flexibility and producing power over the full range of motion as a lot of BMX movements are in a deep squat position which I struggle with due to lack of flexibility in that movement due to various knee and ankle injuries!

I also have 1 month more or less until the Deep South race at Bath track so I will try and get full laps in as well to get as fit as possible for the race to see if I can get full speed laps in before then!
