So I have decided to call this years winter training my Back to BMX Training program as I am basically training to get back to National level BMX racing in 2024 after a year and a half off!
This morning has been pretty chilled as I am getting ready to walk to the track in a bit and do my 60m sprints then I am pretty much done for the day until tonight when I will have to finish off any steps that I have left to do. As its a bank holiday I am going to not stretch tonight and start that tomorrow night as I am going to my parents house and I am not sure when I will get back home. Also its a bank holiday so I’m off 🙂
So I did my weigh-in when I got up and I was surprised to see that I am down to 106.7kgs this morning so typically I lost 0.4kgs on the one day of the year I don’t want to be lighter 🙂
On a positive note I now only need to lose 21.7kgs this year to reach my goal weight of 85kgs so there is a glass half full moment right there 🙂
The weather is looking pretty crappy with 100% chance of rain but I will get on with my training as normal as you can never predict the weather on race day so might as well suck it up and training in the wet to be used to it later on 🙂
I started my walk to the track on 642 steps and I was on 9295 steps when I got home so I’m in a good position to get the 12500 steps done by the end of the day 🙂
Sprints went OK and I found out that you couldn’t stop before the track so I did pump laps on the 1st and half of the second straight to slow down 🙂 It was a bit bumpy through the puddles and ruts on the path between the start hill and second straight but it was less dodgy than trying to stop on it!
I did 6 x 60m alternate leg box sprints (Switch front foot each sprint) and my legs were starting to go at 50m on the last 2 sprints so I decided 6 was enough for today! Its better to so less quality sprints than lots of below 100% ones anyway so its all good. Also its a good indicator of how the fitness is coming along.
The whole sprint session took 30 minutes total with rest so I will have plenty of time to ride to the sprint spot, setup, do the sprints, pack up and
I am contemplating doing weights on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays when I start doing weights in February then I can use Tue and Thursday as Rest days as well then I will be able to train rested every time! I will see how it goes and make any changes needed in March!
I have also been thinking that riding full laps 5 days a week is too much so I was going to do just skills on Tuesday and Thursday lunch times and then Wednesdays I can do full laps (both pumping and Full lap burners) then I am pretty much resting fully on Tuesdays and Thursdays, going full on on Wednesdays and resting Fridays so that I am ready for Gates on Saturday. I want to be more focused with my gates sessions this year and do 3 warmup gates followed by full speed 1st straight, 1st and 2nd straight, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd straight and a Full lap burner doing this twice though then that will be the week done! Doing Gates this way will pull in all the work done during the week into a full race like environment.
Also doing Full lap stuff on Wednesdays after 60m sprints will really help build up my stamina and ability to cope with sore legs 🙂 I am also only going to stretch on Rest Days so Monday, Friday and Sundays for now as I think that it will be too much to do stretching 6 days a week! Again this can be adjusted again if needed.
I am hoping that by being more focused about my training sessions will lead to more quality training and not just do 1st straights as they are fun and easy 🙂
I have just updated my training plan to reflect the changes to the track sessions and Sprint types per day so I am now doing the following this month + 12500 steps per day and :
Monday – 30m Sprints AM, Walk Lunch, Walk and Stretch PM
Tuesday – Walk AM, Skills (off and on track low intensity) Lunch, Rest PM
Wednesday – Walk AM, 60m Sprints with pump laps and full lap burners Lunch, Rest PM
Thursday – Walk AM, Skills (off and on track low intensity) Lunch, Rest PM
Friday – 15m Sprints AM, Rest Lunch, Walk and Stretch PM
Saturday – Walk AM, Gates PM, Walk and Stretch PM
Sunday – Walk AM, Walk and Stretch PM
By the time I got home from my parents and I had put the bins out for recycling tomorrow it was 19:30 and I was on 10918 steps so it was onto the treadmill again as it was raining a lot again tonight!
I got the steps done before 9pm and then put my washing away and then watched some youtube and then went to sleep!
I got 12591 steps in for the day!
