31/08/2020 – Day 22

Had a relaxing day today. I did go to work and back in the evening on the mountain bike and I was surprised how much fitter I had become over the past month.

All ready to start the 300 mile September challenge.

30/08/2020 – Day 21

Weight was back up to 107.1kgs this morning. Which was a little surprising but could well be water weight as I drank a lot of water yesterday.

My friend said he wanted to try the bath to Bristol cycle route this morning so I went with him.

Found it so much easier riding with someone else and the time went by so quickly.

We also tried each others bikes and decided to swap as my bike was way too big for me and his was way too small.

Although the average speeds don’t show it I think we went alot faster than I usually do although being a sunny Sunday we got stuck behind A LOT of slower riders and walkers taking and it was hard to overtake as there was normally someone coming in the other direction. Still it was a lot of fun.

We swapped about half way to Bristol and rode each others bikes to Bristol and back and were both blown away as to how much better it was.

I am now messing with the seat height to get it ready for the start of my 300 miles September.

This morning after watching a bike fit video on YouTube I set my cleats as far back as I could on the shoes to try and combat the numbness in my feet.

I have to say that it helped a lot and I didn’t get any numbness in my left foot at all and just a bit after about 25 miles in my right foot.

With a bit of luck the new setup will let me ride many more pain free miles this month.

29/08/2020 – Day 20

Pleasantly surprised to find that my weight is down to 106.5kgs this morning. Especially as we had burger and chips at 9pm last night as a post ride meal 🤦‍♂️

I have decided that I am going to rest today and tomorrow so that I am fresh to start the 300 miles in September challenge on Tuesday.

28/08/2020 – Day 19

Down to 107.2kgs this morning which I’m happy about as it didn’t really ride at all yesterday.

My left foot is a little sore this morning from the new shoes so I may do another short ride today and then a long ride tomorrow instead.

I ended up doing 2 lengths of the two tunnels until the gates just after midford and back to my house. I did one length with my son and then left h at home and did another really wet length and back on my own.

27/08/2020 – Day 18

Down to 107.5kgs again this morning. Feelimg a bit sore this morning so I am going to rest and ride this afternoon. Hopefully with new pedals and shoes. I’m going to do a shorter ride today or around an hour and then tomorrow do Bristol and back again. I may even do the two tunnels afterwards too as I felt like I could have done it yesterday if my feet were not hurting so much.

The pedals arrived before 10am this morning which is pretty good as I only ordered them at 4pm yesterday.

Not had an update on the shoes yet so not sure when they will be arriving.

The shoes arrived at 1pm so I set them up and out the pedals on the bike ready to go out riding later on.

Went out on a leasurely ride with my son this evening to test out the new shoes and pedals. They are much better than the spd pedals and shoes although I still got a little numbness in my left foot I think that that will go once the shoes are worn in a bit.

26/08/2020 – Day 17

Weight back up to 107.9kgs this morning 🤦‍♂️ I had McDonald’s last night so that has to stop right away. I am just getting ready to go for a long ride to try and make up for yesterday.

Rode to Bristol and back this morning and felt pretty good. My back was sort and my feet kept going numb which was annoying and painful.

I managed the ride in a little over 2 hours and averaged 14mph which is a record for that route for me so happy with that.

When I got back I decided to order some road shoes and pedals to see if they are better for my feet as currently the numb feet are limiting my rides.

I managed to find some really cheap muddy fox shoes in sports direct so I went with them for now until I know that I am going going to stick to usig them. I got shimano pedals as I usually use them on my BMX and they have always been durable and hard wearing pedals.

I plan to upgrade the shoes at some point but figured it was better to start with cheap shoes to start with.

They will both be here tomorrow so I can hopefully try them out on tomorrow’s ride.

25/08/2020 – Day 16

Weighed in at 107.4kgs this morning so weight moving in the right direction.

Didn’t have time to ride today as really busy at work.

24/08/2020 – Day 15

Put on a bit of weight yeaterday. I was 107.6kgs this morning ☹️

Got up early and went for a quick ride before work. pretty happy as I did an average of over 20mph which is about 4mph more than last time and my bike needs the chain oiling and the tyres pumping up after the ride to Bristol last week.

23/07/2020 – Day 14

Had to work today so did my weigh in early and I have dropped a bit of weight to 107.1kgs so still I dropped 1.2kgs in 13 days which is not too bad.

I am going to rest today then cycle tomorrow morning early do the same for the next week. I am hurting a bit today so I have decided to stick to the road bike for now until I get under 100kgs which shouldn’t take too long hopefully now I am getting in the grove with the road bike. I am going to try and do Bristol and back wed, Thur, Fri, sat this week to try and really drop some weight and also get some early morning sessions in before eating as that is supposed to kick start weight loss a bit too.

22/08/2020 – Day 13

Woke up early and weighed myself and down to 107.4kgs this morning.

Went to Torquay bmx track early this morning which was fun but my coccyx was really sore from the driving but my legs felt much stronger and no pain riding the cruiser so a good indication that the road riding is helping.

I need to put the higher bars on the cruiser as the current bar height is feeling really low and straining my back. I think once I have the bruiser bars from my street bike on there it will be perfect.

For the next couple of weeks I am going to continue with the road bike riding daily and also try and fit in twice weekly sprint sessions too to get back into bmx specific training as well. I am also going to set up my cruiser on the manual machine and start practicing manuals as my manuals are really limiting how fast I can ride the track now. Today I was casing everything that I tried to manual which loses loads of speed!!!

21/08/2020 – Day 12

My weight has gone up a bit over the last couple days to 107.8kgs.

Once I managed to get my son up we went out on a leasurely bike ride to Bristol and back.

It turns out that from my house to the end of the cycle path in Bristol and back is just over 30 miles. I am going to try and do this at least twice a week and the rest of the time do shorter rides.

19/08/2020 – Day 10

My weight has gone up a bit to 107.2kgs this morning.

Didn’t ride today as I was going to ride in the evening with my friend but he wasn’t able to ride in the end and my Son came over to stay too.

18/08/2020 – Day 9

Have dropped weight again to 106.8kgs so moving in the right direction.

Did a shorter but faster ride this evening along the 2 tunnels and back as it is basically outside my house and I was feeling a bit lazy today.

My average speed was 16.3 miles and hour which is pretty good. I also got 15 personal records along the route and 2 second fastest times of the day so pretty good all around especially as it was wet and raining the whole ride.

17/08/2020 – Day 8

Woke up at 6:30 without an alarm so definately well rested after my rest day today.

I am up to 107.4kgs this morning after my weigh in so 0.5 kg gain from my last weighin.

Not too bothered about the weight gain as it will be gone by tomorrow I would have thought.

I am planning on going a lot further on today’s ride so hopefully that correlates to more weight loss.

Just got back from Bristol along the bike path and it was a nice ride. My feet kept going numb on the way back but apart from that the body held up really well. Not breaking any records for speed but still you have start somewhere and it’s the furthest I have ridden for ages and it was pretty much pain free too 😁

16/08/2020 – Day 7

Forgot to weigh in again this morning and ate breakfast early then decided to veg out as really tired. Going to do a ride later today.

My brother had just dropped my road bike off so I am going to go out on that later on. I think I will go on the normal ride today and then tomorrow I will go on a longer ride.

I have decided to have the day off today ready to do a long ride tomorrow as I’m a bit tired and my cocxix is really sore. I am currently doing maintenance on the road bike ready for the ride tomorrow.

15/08/2020 – Day 6

Forgot to do a weigh in before I ate breakfast this morning so I’m going to leave it for tomorrow morning.

I woke up at 5:30 this morning so ate breakfast at just after 6am and then went out for a ride at 8:30.

The ride felt easy today and as I was in my own it was way faster 😁

14/08/2020 – Day 5

My weigh in this morning was better again. I am now down to 106.9kgs and I have been drinking a lot of water so I’m really happy that I have lost weight still.

After lunch I went out for a slow ride with my son again.

We did well over an hour again but it was really slow paced.

13/08/2020 – Day 4

My weigh in was the same as yesterday at 107.6kgs.

Did a slow 10 mile ride this afternoon with my son which was fun but not really a great workout but it got the heart rate up and the legs spinning so better than nothing. And it was almost an hour of exercise too.

12/08/2020 – Day 3

Got up earlier today and went for my daily ride. I used my other pair of clip shoes and they were much better. My feet didn’t get numb until about 10 minutes from the end of the ride compared to less than 20 minutes in with the other shoes.

I also raised the seat a bit which helped with my knee pain.

I felt so good compared to yesterday that I went further too where as yesterday I was struggling for the last 6 miles and had to walk. Today I rode all the way to my house.

My weigh in was also positive today as I was down to 107.6 kgs which is almost 1kg in 3 days.

11/08/2020 – Day 2

Woke up about 9am and had breakfast and drank a couple of glasses of water and then watched a film before going out for a ride

Weighed in after waking up and I was still 108.3kgs!

In hind site it was a stupid time to go out as it was really hot and the ride was really hard going even though I was taking it easy!

Cyleled for about an hour and 15 minutes and recorded an hour of the activity on Strava:

10/08/2020 – Day 1

This year has been pretty much a write off due to the Corona virus and also injury. I have had ongoing knee and back issues so I have not been able to ride any kind of bike consistently.

So much so that my weight has gone up to 108.3kg!!!

I also managed to knock myself out last week skateboarding so I have been concussed and hurting until today.

I am now on holiday for the next 2 weeks and have decided that I am going to ride my 4x bike for at least an hour every day of my holiday to try and get my weight back down so that I can start riding the race BMX and also start skating and basketball again! I also have a team training session at the end of the 2 weeks so I want to be in some kind of shape to get the best out of the training.

I made a start this afternoon and did the following ride.

I took it easy as I was still a bit fragile and sore but I am feeling better for it.

Tomorrow morning I plan to do the same ride early in the morning as it was really hot tonight and pretty busy too.

I am going to weigh myself too every morning to keep track of any weight loss or gain.

Everything hurts now so I am taking it easy for the rest of the day.
