Week 5 – 25/01/2026 to 31/01/2026

Not been up to much this week other than riding into the office from the flat and back Mon, Riding to the office from the flat Tuesday morning followed by a bunch of walking Tuesday afternoon and then Rucking into the office from the flat and testing out my 11.3 kg weight in the rucksack ๐Ÿ™‚ I then left the rucksack in the office and rode the ebike back to the flat as I left it in the office Tuesday!

Weight wise my weight went up a fair bit this week and I am back down today again but I am stillย  0.4 kgs heavier than I was on Sunday BUT at least I am 0.8 kgs lighter than I was on Thursday when I was at my heaviest for the week!

Steps Wise my highest step count for the day was 11489 steps on Tuesday, Followed by 10204 steps on Wednesday and my lowest step count was 419 steps on Thursday as I put my Fitbit on charge and forgot to put it back on again until I went to bed! To be honest I wouldn’t have done many steps as I worked no-stop from 6:30 until 16:30 with no break as I was working on something and got zoned in!

I had planned to go out on the ebike on Friday lunchtime BUT when I checked the bike over it had a flat front wheel and when I checked it had 2 massive thorns in the tyre which were a cm or so apart! I fixed the puncture after work so that it was ready to ride on Saturday.

I also decided to bight the bullet and get some decent mudguards for the ebike so I went on Tredz and bought a pair of Mucky Nutz universal mudguards which you can see below:

 

Screenshot from 2026 01 31 09 26 15The Front mudguard is a long and the rear mudguard can be used in short mode or long mode so you have a bit of flexibility with it! For commuting I will deffo use it in the long form to get maximum protection from getting wet and then when I take it off-road through the wood or to a bike park I can use it in short mode or take it off completely if I can be bothered!

Having decent mudguards should mean that I am not riding home at lunch times with soaking wet kit ๐Ÿ™‚

I am now planning on riding the ebike into the office on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Mornings and then riding home again via the woods at lunch times to get some more fun riding in and shake it up a bit! On Thursdays and Fridays I will work from home and I want to make a point of getting out on the ebike at lunchtimes to do a woods loop at a minimum so that I get 5 days a week on the ebike in some form!

I was going to start the Daily 50 challenge and start skipping as well but I think that that will be too much of a shock to my system to start all 3 things at once! So, I have decided to start by adding the ebike Monday-Friday in February then March add the 30 minutes skipping to the mix after than and then in April add the Daily 50 to the mix! I also need to start doing more self study in the mornings too! As I have not done any self study since about this time last year so I have forgotten everything I learnt about Python, Ansible and Terraform now so I will need to go over it all again ๐Ÿ™

I am thinking that I will not study on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday as I will be riding into the office first thing and will be tired after that and working all day so I will take them as rest days and then I will study from 5:00-6:30 on Thursday and Friday mornings before starting work and then at the weekend I will wake up and do the same but depending on what I have on I may well keep going until I am too tired.
