So this morning I woke up at 2 am wide awake so I have been thinking about how I can build the habit of going to the gym as I haven’t been in months again! I have decided that I need to build it into my morning routine and just get on with it.
So from Sunday night I will change my nightly routine to shower and set out my gym clothes before bed. Then first thing Monday morning I will wake up at 4:45, do my weigh-in then get dressed and head into the gym, workout then come home ready to shower and start work at 6:30. At between 7-7:30 I will head into the office as I am preparing for an office move so need to be in the office every day from now until the move mid January. I will then work in the office until about 11:30 when I will head home and get changed and head to the track for a ride before coming home and working until 4pm from home. I plan to start walking on the treadmill for these 2 hours too to get my steps in.
For the rest of this year I and not too worried about what I am doing in the gym, I am more focussed on building the habit of getting up and going to the gym than the actual workout. I think that I will start with legs Monday and Thursday and upper body Tuesday and Friday and then on Wednesday I will just do sled work for 10 minutes then head home.
With the hour of riding to and from the gym/office and back and the hour or so of track work every lunchtime I should be getting enough aerobic exercise in so burn fat but I want to try and get 12000 steps a day in too to make sure and also get 10 minutes on the backwards treadmill in too to make sure my knees and back stay healthy as well.
After the office move I will most likely continue working in the office in the morning then work from home in the afternoon as it will make going to the gym easier to stay consistent over time.
Next year I will start to get more focused in my gym work and track training to adding sprints to the mix to build power and add plyometrics on Wednesdays too for the same reasons.
On non sprint days I want to work on track fitness so that I can get to the point where I can easily do full laps then I can start to work on progressing my skills doing full laps.
I am heading into the office later today so I will time how long it takes me to get in from door to door then I can work out how long I can spend in the gym each morning.
As a rough estimate, if I wake up at 4:45 I should be ready to leave at 5:00 and will get to the gym at roughly 5:15 so I can have 45 minutes to workout before leaving at 6:00 and getting home about 6:15 so I have 15 minutes to shower and get dressed before starting work at 6:30. So if the timings are correct then everything should be good 😁
I am going to get my ebike back from my parents house at the weekend to make riding back from work faster as it’s more uphill on the way home so is slower than riding to work.
Riding the ebike will also make getting home at lunch time faster for the same reason so it makes sense.
Also riding to the gym and office is more about commuting than working out so using the ebike also makes more sense as it’s more efficient than riding my other bikes. It also means that I don’t need the DK so I will get it up for sale to pay off my debts.
I have decided that tomorrow morning I will start doing trial runs to the gym first thing to get used to it ready to start properly on Monday morning. I may pop to my parents house tonight to grab the ebike so that I can use it from the get go and make things easier.
I am also thinking that once the new container is on site I can leave one of my bikes (probably the Standard OS20) in the container and a helmet and gloves then I can ride the ebike to the track instead of taking the car to save time and money on petrol etc.
For now I am going to focus my goals to consistently going to the gym every morning Monday to Friday and then in the new year I will expand it to going to the track every day during the week too. Then in February or March I will start getting specific about what training I do while I am at the gym and the track.
Weekends I will rest other than doing some kind of riding each day.
Also working in the office in the morning makes it easier to intermittent fast as I get on with things and the morning seems to go faster so I tend to forget about eating anyway and only eat when I get home so that should also help me to drop body fat!
