Track Test for StayStrong Speed and Style 24″

So yesterday evening I went to my parents house and while I was there I cut my Cooldown seat post down by 2 inches then this morning I put it back on the StayStrong Speed and Style 24″ and rode it into the Office and it was much better than it was yesterday so it is now perfect for riding to work on 🙂  it rode perfectly into the office again this morning and now with the lower seat height I can pedal and my legs still have a bit of bend on them so no painful knees this morning 🙂

While in the office I did some work until about 6:45 then rode home again and carried on working.

I am planning to hit the track at lunch time to test the StayStrong out on the track as I haven’t ridden it on the track yet. If I like it I’ll clean the Standard 125R and Cult Frames and get them sold and out of the way to free up space and get some cash back as well.

I am hoping to make a start on clearing space in the garage to make space to get the bikes out into the garage as they take up so much space in the lounge which I would like back ASAP. The club are getting closer to getting their new containers so hopefully in a few weeks I can get rid of the club bikes too which will help a lot with the space in the garage. I can also get rid of the TV Trolley too as that can go to the container too to use with the timing system. I can also then leave the gate first aid kit and the timing system stuff in the new container too so I will have a lot of space getting freed up soon!

I forgot to say that the Crupi I-Beam stem arrived yesterday and it is a 45mm stem so too small for me to use so I will stick it on the internet to sell.

The StayStrong rode really well and I even started to jump on the table top to get used to it! I did a couple of really good manuals on it today although the bars feel a bit high but other than that it feels good. I also need to get a 1/2 link chain to slam the wheel a bit more as the back end feels a bit long compared to the Curtis.

Just before I was coming home I noticed a Chain ring bolt on the floor and picked it up and saw it was Avian and though oh its the same as mine then looked at my bike and went OH it is mine 🙁

So basically either today at the track or Yesterday or today riding to work and back I lost 2 of my 4 chain ring bolts 🙁 So I basically lost £5 as it was £10 for 4 chain ring bolts 🙁

This evening after work I will put on another 2 bolts and then see about getting the Profile Elite wheels working as I really prefer them to the Profile mini’s that are on the bike at the moment. Looking at the profile Elites it looks like they have been set up with oil instead of grease in the bearings and that is why they roll so much faster than the Profile Mini’s which are basically brand new and have not been modified.

I have also decided that I need to drop the gearing a bit so I am going to drop back down to 41 x 18 from 42 x 18 and leave the 24 x 1.75 power block on the back so it is a little higher than my race bike still so I am slightly over geared but no-where near as over geared as I am now. I also want to get the StayStrong forks on the bike to make the bike feel the same as the Curtis. I may put on the front wheel off of the Curtis for now as it is not being ridden then I can use the forks now. Then once I get the bars the same height the 2 bikes should feel as Similar as they can.

Once I get the Profile Elite rear wheel built up I can then only ride the Curtis on the Track and then use the StayStrong as my pump track, training and riding to work bike so I may leave the gearing alone for now while I wait for the wheel to be built.

So I have ordered 2 x Shadow 1/2 link race chains to go on the StayStrong and the Curtis as they were 1/2 price at Crucial so when they arrive I will get the rear wheel on the StayStrong as slammed as possible to make it ride as similar to the Curtis as possible.

I have just chased up Alan’s BMX about my Profile Elite hub that I bought a couple of weeks ago as it has not been sent and I have not heard anything about it at all so I want to get an update on it.

This afternoon I also put my StayStrong 20mm race forks and the Onyx Wheel off of the Curtis on the StayStrong Speed and Style so it will now stay like this for now until the 1/2 link Chain arrives and then I will slam the wheel although it is pretty far forwards already. I’m not sure that it will be able to go another 1/4 inch to be the same as the Curtis to be honest!

I have also put on 2 Shimano bolts that came with the cranks so they should be the correct length for the cranks so shouldn’t come lose again!

I also looked at my other Profile wheel and its actually a Profile Mini not a Profile Elite so I need to buy another sprag and pawl kit as the one i bought was for a profile Elite not a Profile Mini! I will put up with this wheel for now. Looking at the bearings in the other wheel they are pretty much knackered as well so I may as well fully refurbish it before I put it on the bike so I will wait until later on when I have sold some of the other bikes! I may actually get a black Profile Elite hub and build up the Halo Rim that I have here and then the bike will have a matching pair of wheels other than the front hub being Onyx.

The new fork and hub combo already feels better and a fair bit lighter too so it was worth the swap and it now feels similar to Curtis already! I’m not a fan of the Chrome headset spacers but there are no black Ciari headset spacers available so it will have to wait! This is the same issue as the Crupi I-Beam stems where they are sold out so I will have to make do with the Profile stem for now!

The bike is now ready to play on tomorrow so I will shake it down riding to the office and then I will go ride it at the track all afternoon to test the timing system! I just need to tighten up the chain ring bolts and put my transponder on the forks and then its all ready to go!
As I have another bike with 20 mm forks I have decided that The Curtis Wheel will stay on the StayStrong, the DK Wheel will Stay on my Son’s SuperCross and the New Onyx hub on Sun Envy rim will go on the Curtis and I will hang the DK up in the shed and leave keep it for now! The DK isn’t worth much anyway so I may as well keep it as I do like it. I may stick some 20mm to 10mm adaptors on the forks and put one of my 10mm wheels on it and use it just for riding around town as I have about £150 into it so its perfect for that. The StayStrong is worth way over £1000 so its not the best bike for riding around worn on!

I may as well build the DK up fully now then its ready to use when I need it. I will also put on one of the Avid levers that I bought off of my Friend Matt to try out as they are budget levers so fit the build really well! I also stuck the 45 mm Crupi I-Beam stem on the DK so it makes it about the same size as the Curtis and I also put the Renthal Bars that I had lying around too. I have decided that I will build up the Standard as well and break down the Cult for now and store it in the StayStong box until I decide I want to build it which will probably be once i have room in the Garage for my bikes again! Once I get the Broken Profile Mini rear wheel built up I will stick it back on the StayStong and then move the rear wheel from the StayStong onto the Standard then I will again have a wheelset for the Cult to use.

At some point soon I will need to build up the Sunday Wave C and get that rideable too then I will have another option for the skatepark over the winter! I am going to build it up brakeless now with the Odessey forks that came with the Cult and the bars that arrived last week. It is then just missing a seat and its good to go!
