Having a recovery day

So I’m feeling a bit crappy again today so I am going to have an impromptu rest day and chill in bed!

I got over 10 hours of sleep last night so way more than my usual 6-7 hours so I am definitely not over whatever I have had the last week or so!

I have been having a think about ways to improve my riding and I think that I want to try and ride in the skate-park a it while I am broken and not really racing I think that riding the skate-park will be a really good way to work on my bike skills away from the track and have fun doing it too! I have dabble with riding in the skate park a bit before but I was always too scared to get hurt and miss out on racing so this year is an ideal time to get more into it as I am not racing!

For now I will use the ump bike then hopefully if I win the 24″ Jump bike I will use that! Even if I don’t win it I will convert my Jump bike to a 24″ until I can sell enough stuff to buy the Curtis mx24 that is one ebay!

I have decided to swap my morning walk for morning skate-park sessions at least until I feel confident enough to ride when there are people around at least! I have decided to do a 30 day skate-park challenge where I get up at 5 am and ride the skate-park for an hour before I start work! I am going to start tomorrow morning an go from there but the idea is to get in the habit of riding early then getting my steps in later in the day instead to get more active during the day!

I am planning in working on dropping into and riding the bowl mostly then once I am comfortable doing that I will be find to go to the skate-park any time as most kids that will be there don’t ride the bowl anyway! Bowl riding also contains a lot of pumping too to generate and maintain speed so that’s a great crossover to racing as well 🙂 I can then also start doing fly outs when I am comfortable with dropping in which will then allow for getting better at jumping and to start learning tricks as well! I really want to learn crank flips for some reason but that will be later on for sure! For this month I want to concentrate on bowl riding skills!

I realised yesterday that I am not enjoying riding the track on flat pedals so I am going to go back to riding clips on the track but I am going to go back to using my Shimano pedals instead of my HT’s for now as Shimano pedals are way easier to clip out of so I am less likely to mess my ankle up as much. I think that this will get me more comfortable on the bike when I am riding the track so hopefully I can start to progress a bit again as at the moment I am riding but trying to get used to flats still so I am just going through the motions really which is a bit boring! At least when I am clipped in I can ride without worrying about foot position etc!

I have bought some new Shimano cleats to put on my Adidas shoes and I will use them from later this week when they arrive.

I bit the bullet and bought a Halo Wideboy front hub and 2 x Halo Sub-4 24″ Racing Rims to get the Wideboy and the Halo DJD Supadrive SS 135x10mm rear disk hub that I bought on Friday then I can convert my DJ bike from 26″ to 24″ to see how it feels 🙂 Then if I win the Black Market Contraband I can build it up with the new wheels and the rest of the parts on my DMR at the moment then sell the leftover parts! I spoke to my friend who builds my wheels and he has time in the next coupke of weeks to get them built for me so all good 🙂

I have decided to not do the Skatepark tomorrow morning as I have to go into the office tomorrow and pass by the chemist on the way home to pick up my inhalers too so I have to walk to the office and back as being on a bike will be annoying! I also have lights arriving tomorrow for the jump bike so I don’t want to ride around in the morning without lights!

I have just put my Shimano SPD pedals on the bike so I will ride tomorrow in my old Shimano shoes until the new cleats arrive so I can set the adidas shoes up to use!
