First Ride on the DMR done

IMG 2840

This afternoon I took the DMR to the track with me when I went to help with gates after the training sessions. It turned out that gates didn’t happen as everyone left after training so I got to play on the DMR a bit. I didn’t do too much as the back wheel moved so I guess that the taper lock was not setup correctly as it was supposed to stop the wheel moving. I think it was because I pushed the wheel when I tightened the non-drive side of the wheel which my friend who had an Identity frame with the same system said stopped the taper lock system from working. I will re-adjust the wheel and not do this next time then I can see if it works or not. If it doesn’t I will just use some chain tugs in conjunction with the taper lock system to hold the wheel in place.

The little that I did ride the DMR is felt really similar to a race BMX especially after I slammed the bars to make the front end lower! I definitely feel that buying the frame was the right option think that the bike will fill my needs for a race/ pumptrack bike for the year while I rehab my shoulder!

I have decided that I am going to sell the 2x Airdop Fade frames and my NS Metropolis frame as I am not going to ride them and then I will leave the DMR in the container all the time so that I can ride it at the track instead of the NS. This means that I will have one less bike in the house too so I can move my Yess Cruiser out of the bedroom onto the lounge wall and make more space in my bedroom for my gym area.

While I have been looking at Olympic weights to buy I stumbled on a few articles about treadmill desks and it got me back to the idea of getting an under desk treadmill to use with my standing desk to try and get healthier and get my steps in during the day while I work instead of having to set aside time to walk during the day! I have decided to not get a new weight bench and to use the money that I was going to spend on the bench on an under desk treadmill instead and I will then try and build up to walking all day when I am working and see if that helps with my weight loss and increases my health in a positive way. The articles that I read said that walking for a work shift can lead to dramatic weight loss while not taking any time outside of working hours. The subject in the article that I read lost 90lbs (40kgs) and 12 inches off of his waist in 7 months of walking on a treadmill between 1-2 kph for his working day so if I can lose even half of this I will be 90% of the way to getting to my goal weight.

Having the walking desk would also mean that I can wake up at 5am and walk for an hour as a warm-up while doing training courses and working on pet projects while walking on the walking desk then stop and do some weights before returning to the walking desk to do some more training/ projects before starting work at 7:30am and walking for the rest of the day until I finish at 4pm. I found last year when I woke up at 5am and studied when I was learning Python that I was way more productive from 5-7am when I had no distractions than I was for the rest of the day when I had a lot of distractions! So starting to do training and projects first thing will be much better than my planned walking outside for an hour then and hour of weights before work and trying to do the training and pet projects during the day/ in the evenings.

I may also move my weights until lunch-time or after work so that I can use the extra hour in the morning for training as well. I will see how I feel after walking on the treadmill desk all day. I am guessing that the extra 2 hours on the treadmill desk will help to drop the weight faster too 🙂

I usually work 8-10 hours a day so with the extra 2 hours in the morning I can easily get up to 10-12 hours walking on the treadmill desk a day so should easily be able to get to over 20000 steps a day once I get used to it which would be amazing for my health and also my weight loss as well.

I am waiting for some money to come through from selling some shares then I will buy the under desk treadmill and start walking while I work as soon as possible! It is also payday on Wednesday so I will buy the treadmill on Wednesday at the latest so I should be able to start really using it by Monday 20th March at the latest. This will give me 41 days to get ready for the Bath Regional which is my only regional this year so I can definitely drop a fair bit of weight and do a lot of rehab before then!
