I woke up this morning and did my end of year weigh-in and I am down another 0.3kgs from my Wednesday weigh-in so I actually lost 1.4kgs this year which is about 26.5kgs short of my target weight! That being said it is the first year in years where I have actually finished the year lighter than I started it so my weight is moving in the right direction! I am also the lightest that I have been all year which shows how bad this year has been with injuries.

Another positive is that the weight loss is purely due to giving up Fizzy Drinks, starting to intermittently fast again and starting to eat more healthily and this is only in December this year so it is looking positive for way more weight loss when I continue doing the same next year! I have also done very little exercise this year and pretty much 0 exercise for the past 6 months since my crash so getting back into the habit of exercising regularly next year should help a lot with dropping a lot more weight in 2023!
To get my weight-loss moving next year I have brought my road bike into the house and today I will be organising the house and setting the smart trainer and bike up permanently in front of the sofa so that I can use it whenever I am watching TV instead of lying on the sofa!
I also plan to start back at the gym on Monday 2nd January to start building up my base fitness and strength and also to rehab my shoulder to try and get it sorted ASAP. I really need to start riding the bike soon but at the moment my shoulder is stopping that from happening so I need to get it sorted. Weights will also speed up the weight loss as it builds muscle which uses more calories! I will stick to machines for the first few months as my body is too broken and weak to do fee weights at the moment!
My plan for at least January and February and maybe March 2023 is to rebuild my body’s base fitness by regularly (4 days a week) going to the gym in the mornings and then doing at least 1 hour on the smart trainer in the evening to burn a bunch more calories. Once my base fitness is achieved I can start to get more BMX specific by moving to free weights and adding some sprint sessions into the mix and start to go to the track again if my shoulder is better by then! As soon as I can I plan to start riding pump tracks to try and work on my bike skills at weekends so that I will at least be better on a bike by the time that I start racing again!
There is a National at Manchester outdoor track that I would like to race at on June 3rd-4th that I would like to race so I am thinking that I will set a goal to be ready to race by then to see how close to race fit I can be by then. This will also mean that I can set goals of BMX specific training on top of the gym for April and May so that I can keep motivated to train until at least June next year 🙂
If I do race in June I am leaning to riding my BMX as the level of racing is really high at Nationals already so I struggle to keep up as it is so racing on the Jump bike may be a stretch! I will see how I feel riding the jump bike by then but I am almost certain that I will have to race the BMX to be able to keep up! Other than this race the only other races I plan to do this year are the Bath and Bristol regional’s which I will race the jump bike anyway as they are just for fun so where I place doesn’t really matter!
Having said that I am really liked the way that the jump bike felt on the track when I rode it last week so I may well just ride the Jump bike this year.
Next week I am going to have a sort out of all the bits that I have and start getting them all on the internet to sell as they are just taking up space at the moment and I think that I can make a good bit of money back on all the parts and bikes that I have lying around not being used.
