This morning I had an emergency at work so I had to ride the Octane One Zircus into the office as it was the fastest way to get there. Then at about 1pm I had to ride home as I had a bunch of deliveries arriving between 12:30 and 3:30 that I had to be home for. At about 3:30 all the deliveries had arrived and the router that I was trying to get working was fixed so I ran it back into the office and re-fitted it and went home. When I got home the router had lost internet so I ate and then rode back in again and got it sorted before finally riding home about 8pm. Work wise my day was a mess and super hectic but bike wise it was amazing.
I felt so much better riding the jump bike compared to the 20″ so I have definitely made the right choice swapping the BMX with the jump bike for this year. Injury wise my shoulder is a bit sore and I have some wrist soreness and my broken finger hurt a lot as well! but the extra pain is worth it for the much better mood and surprisingly much better breathing and lack of asthma! I guess all the riding cleared out the cobwebs in my lungs that walking can’t reach! Just riding around was also 1000 times more fun than Zwift as well so I may just ride around town for now until the weather gets really bad.
Octane One Zircus wise the new 175mm Truvativ Descendant DUB 6K cranks felt really stiff and light and the bottom bracket felt really good too which was a surprise as it was the manufacturers standard bottom bracket.
The best upgrade was definitely the 32T chain ring and the 32×16 gearing which makes the gearing feel exactly like the 36×16 on the cruiser so the bike feels amazing to ride now. Much better than when it was with the 34×16 that it had before! I think it will feel even better once I get a half link chain so that the back wheel can be slammed as it is way to far back at the moment but is fine for now as I’m not riding on the track or pump track yet and I will most likely not be doing so until next year some time.
I also got a text from DHL to say that my son’s Airdrop Fade will be arriving tomorrow so we are both excited to get it built up with the parts off of the Octane One Zircus and some of the new ones that I have been ordering over the weekend.
We have been talking and we are going to build up the Octane One Zircus with the wheels from my Son’s GT Chucker 2.0 that we bought a few months ago so that he can use it as his riding about bike as the Chucker is really tired and is really heavy too so my son is always too lazy to get the bike from the basement as he has to carry it up stairs which is a mission! Hopefully by swapping the wheels onto the Zircus the resulting bike will be a lot lighters so he will use it more!
I am most likely going to offer the rest of the Chucker to one of the kids at the club or donate it to Julian house if no-one wants it! Keeping the Zircus also makes sense as I really like the way that he frames feel and ride so I would like to keep it so that I can ride it sometimes too.
