After picking up the Inspyre Evo Pro XL and looking at it I have decided that I am going to keep the bike but give my friend the spare back wheel and forks to get his build moving along as well as sell the cranks as they are 180mm so too long for me to use without blowing out my knee again! As I am keeping the bike now I have bought some new Odi Vans lock-on grips from Wiggle as I have these grips on all of my bikes and also a left handed Shimano DXR lever from somewhere else which will be here by next weekend I think. The Inspyre Evo Pro XL comes with a 42×16 gearing so it will be perfect for me to get used to spinning for when I build up the Cruiser to start riding properly again! Due to the price of the bike I am going to use it as my do everything Winter bike and then build up the Dialled MX20R and Yess Type X Pro XL Cruiser after xmas ready to start riding properly again. I am thinking that once the Dialled MX20R is built up I will leave use the Inspyre Evo Pro XL as my pump track/ park bike as well as using it to ride around town on.
I need to find some cheap 175mm cranks to replace the 180mm ones on it at the moment as I don’t really want expensive cranks on it as I will be leaving it around town when I am at the Gym and at Work so I don’t want to have to worry about it being stolen! I also don’t want to have to worry about expensive cranks on the pump track! Other than the cranks and the new bits I have bought I don’t need to change anything else on the bike apart as it looks really well looked after so should last the winter. The rear wheel is practically brand new so it should last a while. I may look for some cheap steel forks to replace the Answer Daggers as I will probably keep them to go on the Dialled MX20R as they are really good race forks and are too good for what I want to use them for.
This morning I have also bought some bits for the Yess Type X Pro XL Cruiser like a cable guide for the V brake mount and bolts to block off the holes.
*** Update
I have just bought some cheap Shimano DXR MX70 looking 175mm cranks off of ebay so I will sell the Forward cranks for £60 to get my money back for the DXR’s.
The Cranks look beat up enough to not call attention to themselves so are perfect to go on the Winter do it all bike. I’m not entirely sure what the 2 holes drilled in the spider are about but they don’t seem to be in a place that will make the spider weaker so I’m not really bothered about it.
I am thinking about taking them to get powder coated as a test for my DXR’s that are going to go on the Yess Type X as I think that the silver cranks are going to look a bit weird on it and Black ones will look way better. By getting these crappy ones done first I can see how hard wearing the powder coat is on cranks arms before getting it done on my better cranks. I may just leave them as they are as they look pretty beaten up at the moment so will not make the bike a target for thieves like they will newly powder coated!
I have also put a bid on some Haro Cliq 20mm axle forks with 10mm adapters so that I can potentially use the forks on this bike then use them on the Dialled to race on with my Onyx Front wheel once the summer starts. The auction ends on Monday so hopefully I can win them and get the Inspyre sorted in time to have to ride into the office Monday in 2 weeks time!
I have been testing my shoulder a bit and it seems to be almost ready to ride a bike slowly and carefully so I am aiming to get back on the bike and start riding it around town from Monday 1st October.
I am hoping to start riding on the indoor trainer from this Monday (19/09/2022) so I should get 2 weeks of riding in on Zwift to stretch out and strengthen my shoulder and wrist before I try and ride the BMX again. I am not planning on doing very much on the BMX other than ride about on it until at least the middle of October when I get the all clear to take my splint off of my broken finger at least!
The way things are going with my wrist and shoulder I am not sure that I will be capable of proper BMX riding until after Xmas anyway as they are both really painful and my wrist is getting more painful all the time which is not right! The shoulder is hurting still but I have way more movement in it than I did this time last week so that is encouraging at least!
Until I am fully healed I am going to leave my warmup post and seat on the bike so that I am not able to play at manuals and bunny hops while I am riding as the seat will be in the way as it is too high 🙂
I have taken a look at the forks that were on the bike before the kid who had the Inspyre before me swapped them for the Answer Dagger forks and they look to be in really good condition already so I am just going to put them back on the bike and basically just swap the cranks out when the Shimano ones arrive next week. I am going to leave the gearing as 42 x 16 at the moment as it is lower than the gearing that I was running but is higher than the gearing that I need to train to use going forwards. I will stick on the 42 x 16 at least until I start doing sprints then I will change it to 42 x 17 to drop it below the gearing that I will be racing on next year on both the 20″ (46 x 18 on 20 x 1.6 Tioga power block for a 49.80 gear inch and 36 x 17 on a 24 x 1.60 Tioga power block on 24″ or 49.77 gear inches). By doing this i can hold off on spending any more money on the bike until around xmas time!
I have also decided to just run the Tektro brake lever on the left hand side instead of the right as it is now. The lever will look a bit crap but that makes it less desirable too so I can live with the backwards brake in that case 🙂
I am planning to swap the parts that I have on the bike tomorrow asa the grips will arrive sometime tomorrow and put on my DXR cranks that will eventually go on the Yess on there for now until the ebay Shimano’s arrive next weekend (estimated delivery is Wed-Friday next week!), then the bike will be completely setup. So tomorrow I am going to fit the old steel forks, My good DXR Cranks, move the lever to the left and swap out the grips. I may as well also fit the long seat post and seat to the bike too ready to use. I may also give it a quick wipe over with GT85 to make it shine as it will be on my wall for a couple of weeks still until I feel I can ride it pain free.
As I have been a bit bored at home today I had a look at the Inspyre website and found that I am right in the middle of the rider size for this bike as I am 174cm roughly and the height range is:
- Rider Height: 1m70 – 1m80
- Frame: 21.25’’TT / Premium alloy 6061-T6 / hydroformed tubes / Reactiv Geometry
Personally I think that it is a bit small as I usually ride a 20″ with a 21.75-22″ top tube and my Dialled MX20R is a 22″ top tube and it rides perfectly for me so there is a bit of difference there but as a winter/ pump track bike this bike should be fine!
