Shoulder not quite strong enough to ride the bike.

I have just tried to ride the bike on the Elite Suito Smart Trainer and my shoulder and wrist are not quite ready to ride for an extended amount of time at the moment. I managed 6 minutes before I had to stop due to my shoulder and wrist really hurting.

I have decided that I will wait until Monday to start my 30 day challenger to give my body a bit of time to heal before I start! I will setup Zwift as planned tomorrow and then do a few practice rides over the weekend to get my body used to riding again but I will start riding properly on Monday. I think that for the first couple of week I will try and do 2 x 30 minutes on the bike to let my body heal and then build up the time as the month goes by to try and get 1 hr rides in before the end of the challenge.

I also need to level out the trainer as there is a weird knocking/ clicking coming from the Smart Trainer that is a bit annoying but can be covered up by having my headphones on and up load so ints not a major issue but I want to make sure that I don’t break the trainer!

I wasn’t over impressed with the myETraining app as the only training that is available free is a basic interface with Speed (KM), Power (W), Cadence (RPM), HR (BPM) Distance (KM) and Time like below:

So although the interface is really usable it is really boring so you are basically riding looking out of a window or what ever is in front of you! I suspect that Zwift is going to be way more entertaining and enjoyable than this interface.

I was hoping that the app had a basic exercise bike view where you can select workouts with increasing and decreasing levels of intensity etc but it look like that is a paid feature so I will not be getting it!

I am going to sign up for a Zwift free trial account tomorrow then try that out to see if it is better or not.

Last night I also did some research on fans and bought the Vacmaster Cardio54 exercise fan which is arriving from Amazon tomorrow by 1pm so I will be able to use the fan while I trial Zwift. The Cardio54 is a similar spec to the Kickr Headwind but has the added advantages of a remote control and is also over half the price of the Kickr so it was a bit of a no-brainer too 🙂

Tomorrow I will also find out my cycling matt so that I can put the bike and smart trainer on it to stop sweat and dirt getting on the floor. I bought the mat last year to use with my rollers and then never used the rollers so I put the rollers in the garage and the mat went into a cupboard somewhere. I am deep cleaning my flat tomorrow morning so I will keep an eye out for the mat then I can use it when I set up the Trainer by my desk ready to try Zwift.

I am planning to use my work setup and sit/stand desk with the trainer then I can setup the Zwift on my mac so that I can raise the desk high enough that I can fit the handlebars under the desk and use the keyboard and mouse comfortably from the bike.

I also got a call from the powder coaters to say that my frame was ready to be picked up so I will pop over on Mon day afternoon and get it as I am on a half day again 🙂
