Bought an Onyx Back Wheel!
I was browsing Facebook Market Place this evening and I saw an Onyx back wheel for sale that I had seen before the National but not since so I figured that it had been sold but it turned out that it hadn’t so I bought it straight away as it was a fair price and was exactly what I had been looking for for the FTB to make my gates better again going forwards. It will also solve the issue of drag on the Profile Elites as Onyx hubs have zero drag on them! In fact my old set used to speed up when you stopped pedalling and started freewheeling 🙂
I am going to drive to Bournemouth tomorrow first thing and pick the wheel up 🙂 I’m so excited its like xmas 🙂
After buying the new wheel I went to the to the track (about 9am) and did a 3 warmup pump laps then did about 10 full speed first straights to test out the bike. It rode really well and the back wheel was binding way less noticeably but was still binding as the bearings are ruined! I didn’t do too much as I had to get home to get ready to pick my son and his friend from their Duke of Edenborough expedition and the track was getting busy with little kids that were riding around all over the track in both directions and cutting across the track all the time and as I had already told them not to ride their scooters on the track and they had done what they were told I didn’t want to be the fun police and stop them having fun on their bike too!
When I got home my friend said that he was taking his son to the track later in the afternoon so I went back and met them around 4pm and had another ride where I played about on the first and second straight again and chatted shit until about 6pm which was really cool.
They both said how fast I was looking on the FTB so I think that I have made the right decision for this season. Lets see how fit I am by the end of the season! Hopefully I will be fit enough to spin a 36×16 gearing and will be able to ride the Curtis again next year with the Onyx hub 🤞🙏
The track was way drier in the afternoon too as it had dried out during the day so was riding much faster which made it more fun too. I even managed to do a couple of tap manuals on the table top and first jump and managed to do a nose manual on the second jump on the first straight which isn’t fast but feels really good 🤣
