2021 – Racing – SW Regional Round 1 – Decoy
We had the first regional of 2021 at Decoy BMX track today.
I managed to make 4 full laps of the track which was more than I thought that I would and got a 4th, 7th and 4th in my motos which wasn’t too bad as all my motos were stacked compared to the other motos and all of my motos were with 7 riders and the others were with 6 riders. Also the last 2 guys in the A final were in the easy moto for at least one of their motos especially the 3rd moto when my moto was super stacked with the people who finished 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th in the A final so that really didn’t help!!
I didn’t do enough to make the A final but did enough to get second pick in the B final so I took lane 2 and won the final leading from start to finish which I was pretty pleased about and I had my fastest gate and lap of the day but the timing system let me down for a change as I don’t think that I have had it work properly in a final yet!
I am a bit annoyed that my final wasn’t timed as it was my only lap of the day where I went flat out for the entire track and I wanted to compare the times to the A final to see how I compared which I obviously can’t do now!
It was a real struggle on the last straight and my legs were like jelly trying to walk back to the gazebo.
On the plus side I got to watch the A final which was a really good race to watch.
I also had a look at how my gates compared to some of the faster riders and I was pretty happy to see that I was around about the same times as some really good national riders although I have a lot of work to do to get up to the same speed on the track!
I have decided to stick on the FTB for the rest of the season as I feel really comfortable on it and I am competitive speed wise too so there is no reason to change. I am looking forward to racing the first Bristol Summer series race on Wednesday night if my legs come back before then! I am also way better on the 37×16 gearing compared to the 36×16 that the Curtis is made to use which is another reason to stay on the ftb. I am now saving to try and get a new Onyx wheel set to use for the Brits to give me a little extra out of the gate and out of berms with the instant engagement. I am not planning to change frames for a while as I am happy with the way the frame rides and also the way I ride on the bike too and everyone is saying that I look super quick on it so I don’t see any point in changing it any time soon.
Considering my lack of full laps before the racing and the fact that I wasn’t able to make the practice on the Saturday I am really happy about how the day went and even happier that I came out of it really tired but not injured for the first time for a long time and I had zero knee pain again even gating really quickly every time.
I still have a really long way to go to be even slightly competitive at Nationals although I should be close to everyone up until the first jump at least.
