10000 Steps: Day 30 – Finished the Month with a failure!

10000 Steps: Day 30 – Finished the Month with a failure!

I was rudely awaken this morning by a massive cramp in my right calf which was most likely caused my me being an idiot and drinking only Dr Pepper last night so I was pretty dehydrated by this morning! The calf was sore all day so I didn’t force it and walk today and instead I di loads of tidying and re-arranging my aquarium’s instead!

I am a little disappointed that I didn’t finish off the month on a high note but I felt that it was better to bet rested and ready for gates at Bristol tomorrow and Team training at Hereford on Sunday, instead of pushing it today and injuring my calf walking and not being ride all weekend!

Due to the dramatic failure this week I have decided that I am going to re-do the 30 day challenge next moth and add a 1. to the Day number so that I can easily tell I was on a do over as Day 1 will be Day 1.1 next month.

I plan to force myself to get out and walk EVERY day next month to try and make the 30 day 10000 challenge stick this time!

I have also come to the realization that the Shift work needs to stop as it is really detrimental to my health, makes me lazier and  means that it is very hard to get into a routine and be consistent with my training! I have asked my Boss if there is any way I can get moved into a different role with more structured hours and I am waiting to hear back but I am also starting to looking into the possibility of looking for a new challenge at another company if there is now movement soo as I feel that my quality of life is more important to me at the moment than my work is!

I feel that moving back to a role that is Monday – Friday will make it much easier to organize my training as I will be able to walk and work on my side hustle stuff early in the morning every day so that they are done and out of the way before work and I can then start BMX training in the evenings after work and at weekends. It will also make it easier to fit racing into my schedule too.

Another benefit of working normal hours is that it makes it way easier to control my diet and prep meals where as being on shifts is the opposite! especially when in night shifts as you end up eating at night and then when you wake up you are really dazed and tired still so you don’t feel like shopping or cooking so are more likely to cave and eat takeout!

Lets see what happens in the next month or so but if I need to switch jobs I have a 3 month notice period which will be a bit of a pain but at least I should be sorted before the end of the summer!

Steps May

As you can see from the daily step count for April on the left I did really well and walked 10000 steps or more EVERY DAY for 23 day until I injured my back and knee on day 24. I then had to take 2 days of rest and then got back to it another 2 days before I had a sleepless day on my night shift on the 28th so didn’t walk either. I then had cramp on the 30th to finish the month on another fail!

I did however manage to average 11183 steps a day (11182.6 to be totally accurate) which means that I did technically walk more than 10000 steps a day in April even if there were 4 days that  I failed to reach my target!
